I have saw number 2……my son took over my first one and my daughter-in-law would not let me have it back..I bought a 12″ DeWalt miter saw …..another great saw but, it was a little heavy. So I gotanother Makita 10″…….have had it 4 years now. This saw is lighter in weight and cuts thru wood fasterthan you can blink an eye. If it goes out today…… I will purchase another Makita tomorrow. If you doany wood working at all this saw is a must …….Don’t leave home without owning one…….!6 Star for sure…..!

I have owned this saw for over 10 years, and has yet to let me down. It will power through most stock with ease, of course that is dependent on a quality blade that is sharp (no kidding, right?). But seriously, I have built over 100 decks using pressure treated lumber, ipe, and composites and this saw cuts it all. The throat plate is replaceable and the adjustment stops remain true to the angle. The only drawback is that it is a 10″ saw that doesn’t slide, so the size of stock is limited. It will do 4 1/4″ crown with ease, but you will have to flip the board around for left and right cuts.

This is the miter they should carry in the store in stock. The ryobi works but I recommend it for children under 16. The rest of us should use real tools. Thanks Makita for making a quality product – unlike your first generation lxt lithium ion impact driver which is a joke.

I bought this on sale recently, largely because it was very well reviewed on the Internet by a number of websites. (Top choice in its category.) Add in the drop in price at Home Depot and it was an easy choice. I have now used it extensively since the purchase. It isn’t fancy but is, rather, a simple, no frills saw that does what is supposed to do extremely well. It’s easy to set up accurate bevel or mitre cuts and for my purposes, it has lots of power. As a senior citizen who has to move and set up the saw every time I use it, its comparatively light weight is important to me. As far as I can tell, it is well made, as I would expect from a Makita product. Another plus – it is easy to operate left handed. One odd little detail that is not worth docking a star: as far as I can tell, the vertical vise does not extend down far enough to clamp a 1″ (3/4″ in reality) piece of stock when setting up a cut. It’s easy to add a block as a work around but it seems odd to have to use a work around for what is the most common dimension of wood that I and surely lots of other folks need to cut!

For the most part this saw is great, but i have three issues. First, it doesnt quite cut a 1×6. Maybe this is true with all 10” miter saws, if so, my bad. But its pretty frustrating to have to make two cuts on such a small board. Second, i cant get the saw to be square no matter how hard i try. I think the blade has a small wobble which prevents it fron staying perfectly square. Finally, it only has two holes to mount it down to a table or stand. My stand uses four bolts to secure the saw, so with only two i cant get a very stable attachment

I’m no expert just an amateur but I looked at a bunch of different models and feel this one is made the best from a great name in tools. I have had nothing but great experiences with Makita tools. I knocked off one star because it doesn’t come standard with some extension wings and it should IMO.
