The Makita 12 Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser (model LS1219L) combines capacity, accuracy and efficient dust extraction in a more compact size, with a unique 2-Steel Rail Sliding System that offers a reduced footprint for operation flush against a wall. The innovative direct-drive gearbox and guard system is engineered for increased vertical cutting capacity of baseboard (6-3/4) and crown molding (8 nested). It will also make 15 crosscuts at 90. The saw miters 0 to 60 left and right, with positive stops at 0, 15, 22.5, 31.6, 45 and 60 (left or right). The bevel lock is located in the front of the saw for easy access and quick adjustments from 0 to 48 (left and right). The saw is powered by a 15 Amp direct drive motor with soft start, a key point of difference. Direct drive enables smoother start-ups and consistent, constant power with no belts to slip or replace. The electric brake provides added convenience. In addition, the electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load for smoother, higher-quality cutting.
- Unique 2-steel rail sliding system design offers single slide-glide operation; reduced saw footprint allows operation flush against a wall

The laser is extremely accurate. Good range of travel for the saw blade. 12” blade accommodates large pieces of wood. Good two-shute vacuum system. Yep.

Upside – Saw came square right out of box. Really smooth operation and very stable. Really like the small footprint with big capabilities.Downside – saw is heavy. Difficult to see lugging jobsite to jobsite w/o a stand w/ rollers. Not my issue as I am retired. Previous reviews bragged @ dust collection & I am not finding that true. Hooked up to dust sucker and still much escapes to bench and saw parts.Note to Makita:. I do a lot of repetitive length cuts for cabinetry – door rails/stiles, face frames, etc. Be nice to offer a length stop feature to attach to the saw fence.End of day – I would buy this saw again.

It’s the quietest miter Saw I’ve used!

This is my new workhorse. I use it for most of my weekend work. It’s so easy to cut a bevel on a 2×6. I mark the board, flip it on its edge, turn on the laser, line up the laser with my line, clamp the board in place and fire up the saw. I connected my dust collector to the exhaust hose so I can my workshop relatively clean. I like the soft start, and the motor noise isn’t ear piercing.

Saw is great. Packaging/shipping substandard. So much damage I photographed but all intact on the inside.

Box came in great shape & saw out of the box was dialed in. Great saw!

I am not a professional contractor. I build custom furniture on the side. I wanted a smaller profile saw with a 12 inch blade for cross cutting table legs. This saw maintains accuracy but isn’t very rigid. When using the slide, side pressure on the downstroke can create a rougher cut than expected. This defect can be countered by carefully avoiding side pressure. For a casual woodworker I can deal with the downsides and get the most out of the saw. I think if I was working hardcore every day it would drive me crazy. The dust collection is fantastic.

Overall the saw is great. High quality materials, the blade that’s included is good for fine cuts. My only complaints are that I expected the laser would illuminate exactly where the blade will cut, but that is not the case. The laser aligns just to the left or right of the blade and you’ve got to compensate your cuts accordingly; certainly not ideal. And lastly, I was expecting the dust collection system to collect more of the saw dust than it does. But overall its super high quality and a great product.

Was looking at a Festool – too expensive. Reviews recommended this saw as the most likely competition at less than 1/2 the price.Very heavy duty – quality machine. Dust collector seems to work better than most.

I love this saw!! I am still figuring out all of the little nuances of it but this saw is very well made and they really thought of everything when it comes to functionality and quality. I love that it can be setup against a wall and slides toward you. The footprint of the saw is very smart and it can function in several size shops.

The saw is really awesome! I love it. The Makita is above and beyond a better technical saw than the Dewalts, Bosch, and other unmentionables. On a rating scale it is definitely higher in quality and precision than the Dewalt – and very similar in execution to the Festool Kapex. The dust collection is a 6/10. They still need to work on the details. My suggestion is to use a formal shop vacuum for extraction over a shop vac. But I would rate this a 10 over any other brand. Last note. The 10″ for some reason feels more refined and tighter. But the 12″ does the real work. And is super precise.
