I love this tool. My only complaint is the bag fills so quickly and if you don’t empty before it is full you have to expose the blade area to remove the built up shavings.

The joiner was very easy to use. Cut through hard wood like a hot knife through butter. Usual Makita quality.

I purchased the joiner from the discount hardware store, and this joiner on the same day. I opened the other box, looked it over, and quickly put it back. I then pulled out the Makita, and have been using it ever since. Great machine! It’s much lighter weight than other joiners making it much easier to make cuts. Getting access to the blade is easier than other machines as well. The only thing I don’t love about it is the dust collection bag. It was made so it can rotate, which sometimes makes it get in the way. Otherwise it is exceptional.

used it about a year a it cuts clean and strong everytime. however I try to keep the shop clean and dust free as possible and this joiner’s dust collection is practically useless. even with a shop vac on it still clogs up and spews sawdust and shavings. have to clean out the cuts everytime before glue up. being makita I bought this thinking it’d be a huge step above ryobi but I’m not seeing a justifiable $100 more for this one.

This is a very high quality tool. I have always had good results with Makita products so didn’t even bother comparing prices with other brands. I bought this in store and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had several in stock. I decided that I needed this tool in the middle of a project so first went to the Farm and Fleet store near me as they have a good selection of power tools, only to learn that they had no flat plate joiners of any brand in stock. The Home Depot store added a few extra miles to my trip, but it was worth it. I will probably just go directly to Home Depot the next time I need a power tool as they usually have a good selection of brand name tools at competitive prices. The only suggestion I have to improve the tool would be to add a light at the index marker line as it can be a little hard to see. I have two Makita drills that have such a light, so I know that Makita could to it. BTW, I was very surprised to find that the dust/chip collection works very well, which is an added bonus.
