The Makita 6-1/2 in. Plunge Cut Circular Saw and 55 in. Guide Rail work together to produce accurate cuts with minimal tear-out. The saw combines a powerful 12-Amp motor and a large cutting capacity with magnesium components for less weight (only 9.7 lbs.). Electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load for smooth handling and a splinter-free, mirror finish. The saw delivers accurate cutting as the position of the blade enters the material on the same cutting line, whether cutting straight or bevel.

Fantastic saw, great accuracy. Recommend getting a TSO parallel edge square to use with it.

BEWARE the guide rail that shipped with my saw had 1/2″ of bow from one end to the other. Visible from across the room. Totally unusable. Got a replacement that is straight and now I’m pretty happy with it. The 1/16 cut lock is sticky but otherwise everything works as expected.

I am using this saw to build kitchen cabinets and have completed two, including cutting through ¾ plywood as well as 1 ½” of plywood stacked with accurate cuts ready to glue. Its a quality product. I like the feature that easily allows a shallow first cut to help with possible tear out. The blade that comes with is good. If you are new to track saws, like I was, read the manual carefully and maybe download other tracksaw manuals since it is sparse (checkout Festool’s). Follow instructions to prevent kickback. A sacrificial table helps with clamping work securely and accuracy, definitely worth a few hours with many examples online. I have used both the Makita and Festool tracks. The Makita track that comes with it is fine but I like the smoothness of the Festool track and their easy to use stop.

ngo problem with saw, track does not sit flat,anti-skid pads on bottom of track are thicker than the splinter guard strip causes saw to wobble hard to saw a straight line.

Exceeded my expectations…it’s a Makita

I have watched the Festol brand saw being used on T V, but didn’t think I could afford one. When I reviewed the Makita, it sounded too good to be true. The price was very affordable and the quality is excellent. The saw arrived timely and in perfect condition.i would recommend this saw to anyone.

The saw is easy to assemble and operate. The depth gauge does require some calibration for the scale to conform to actual. I had expected it would be a little closer than it turned out to be. Marking out and making a cut is straightforward and swift. The rail adheres very well to a variety of surfaces. It is definitely a cabinetmakers saw for sheet goods, so it won’t lend itself to construction uses. The guide rail will not hold up well in a construction environment.I found the accuracy of the cuts excellent. The rail would be better a few inches longer than 55inch.The long rail accessory would be nice to have, but the price makes it’s purchase hard to justify.Overall I’m very pleased with the purchase and feel its the “best overall value” amongst it’s competition.

This is a great saw to have in my tool trailer. Cuts clean and smooth. The soft start motor is a little slow and touchy – You have to keep a firm finger on the trigger or the motor shuts off. I wish the plunge depth was in inches since I have to site the depth when cutting material. I have never clamped the track – the tacky rubber material on the bottom keeps it right in place.

I don’t have the room for a table saw at the moment, but with this saw I can throw a cheap sheet of sacrificial plywood on two saw horses and go to town breaking down sheets to the exact sized pieces I need. The saw slides effortlessly on the track, cuts with the stock blade are very clean (when the convenient scoring stop is used first), and clamps aren’t really necessary as long as the track is supported along its entire length. After building several hanging cabinet carcasses for a friend’s garage, I am happy with the utility of the saw.My only gripe would be that the scale for the plunge stop is in metric. It’s not a huge deal because I find myself eyeballing the depth anyway, but it is still an odd choice for a saw sold in the US.

Used with the track guide for making precise straight cuts. The produced cuts are as good as those made on my table saw. The setting for cutting a shallow cut to reduce surface tear out worked well. Once the surface fibers were cut I made a full depth cut. The resulting cut was clean. The material was 1/4″ plywood from Home Depot. At this time I’ve only used the saw a few times.
