The Makita 6-1/2 in. Plunge Cut Circular Saw and 55 in. Guide Rail work together to produce accurate cuts with minimal tear-out. The saw combines a powerful 12-Amp motor and a large cutting capacity with magnesium components for less weight (only 9.7 lbs.). Electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load for smooth handling and a splinter-free, mirror finish. The saw delivers accurate cutting as the position of the blade enters the material on the same cutting line, whether cutting straight or bevel. This bundle also comes with 2, 194368-5, 55 in. Guide Rails and 194385-5 Guide Rail Clamp, 2-pack.

So far has worked just fine. Came in heavy packaging so it was not bent many have complained about. Also, you must do a trial run with it before cutting to trim the rubber anti-wood splitting guard alongside the rail.

This is the first track saw I have ever used and it was pretty easy to figure out. It worked well and cut a very straight line down an 8′ piece of MDF. I would highly recommend it.

I bought two 55″ guide rails and a connector kit to go with a cordless track saw. Either rail is excellent on its own and makes it super easy to rip a straight line – far better and easier than a circ saw with an edge guide. The 5 star rating is for one rail on its own, definitely excellent. However, when putting two 55″ tracks together to rip a full sheet of ply I found it pretty tricky to get them straight / square. The aluminum portion of the rails is just slightly different in width and the ends are just a teeny bit off square. That teeny bit gets exaggerated over 55″, and l found that I could easily be off a straight line by 1/32″-1/16″ from the seam of the two rails to ends of a rail (bow or bulge in the middle). Tried reversing the connected ends, and the error would just move the opposite direction. Placing a 4′ straight edge along the back of the rail to align, leaving a slight gap between the rails, then tightening both connectors helped (I used the two connector pack), but it is really challenging for me to setup in a straight line along the full length of the two. I’m guessing I got rails from two different manufacturing runs and a little bit of bad luck. If you aren’t worried about that kind of precision or don’t mind the work to get there, then putting two rails together is the cheaper option (and more portable) to a 118″ rail which runs triple or more the cost of one 55″ rail. Not sure if I want to return one track and get a 118, or just got through the trouble of adjusting/rigging the end-to-end 55s each time I need to rip a long sheet.
