The Makita 25 in. Electric Hedge Trimmer (model UH6570) combines commercial-duty power and ease-of-use for improved performance in a range of applications. The UH6570 is powered by a 4.6 Amp motor that delivers 1,600 SPM for faster trimming and is engineered for quiet operation and less vibration. The UH6570 has a cutting capacity of 25-1/2 in. L and 1/2 in. Dia for increased efficiency and the 2-hand operation switch is engineered so the motor runs only when grips are held with both hands. Additional ease-of-use features include a large transparent hand guard for improved view of work area and a well-balanced design for increased user comfort.

Quality you’d expect from a Makita tool. A little heavier than the cheesy B & D hedge trimmer we had before (which died after only two years), which means guess which one of the husband/wife yard-trimming team gets to trim the bushes from now on? But if it’s like my other Makita tools, it should still be working in 20+ years (it may outlive me). Shipping was a bit lengthy. When I checked tracking, it seemed to be taking a rock star tour of the southern U.S. including some pretty small venues you’ve probably never heard of. But it arrived, it works great, and my bushes are happy (are bushes in Arizona ever really happy?).

Overall the quality of this trimmer is high quality, typical of Makita. It is a bit heavier than some of the lighter trimmers, but it is built solid. Has a cord lock to keep the extension cord from pulling out. The plug fits extension cords with the third ground prong. I was worried about bending the bar, since it is pretty long, but after banging it around, it’s still straight. The On/off switch is great, you basically squeeze the whole handle. The safety switch is the same, just squeeze the handle. Blazes through bushes, does not bog down. It only has a 1/2 inch capacity, but there’s not a whole lot of branches bigger than that if you’re just trimming.I have some boxwood and juniper hedges, and it zips right through them. On some of the few thicker branches it did not bog down. My only complaint was that the plastic housing had some really sharp edges on the seams; the factory did not do a good job of cleaning off the flash. The good part was that it just took a sharp utility knife and a few minutes to make it smooth.

Impressive! The specs say it has a cutting capacity of 1/2″–at least on my shrubs, that was not the case, 3/8″ would be a more realistic expectation. The three safety switches are comforting–2 of the 3 have to be activated to turn on–and they give you multiple ways to hold the device.

This trimmer is great! Like the Makita chainsaw I own, it is packed with plenty of power and great features. The user interface is great, with three large triggers built into the handles, and you must pull any two to start the trimmer (great safety feature). This allows to to easily cut in three modes, vertical, horizontal and extended reach. The cord management features are great. My first cutting session and no cords disconnected or near misses cutting the cord. This trimmer is worth every penny.
