Last summer, I had a fun home project, to build a full-size deck in my back yard. During my research for style and technique to build this deck, Makita impact driver appeared in the research list, as a “must have tool for builders”. Firstly, I thought this is just another rebranded power tool, that the manufacture can trick people to buy for a higher price. However, after accomplished my building project with my Makita impact driver. This new tool’s performance changed my mind. The Makita impact driver was a surprisingly powerful tool, reliable and cost effective, however, its heavy weight and inconvenience to purchase was only two minor issues that I dislike about this product. My first impression of this impact driver was small and compact tool compare to my regular power drill. Consequently, its smaller size made me question its capability. After screwed a few 6 inches long screws into a solid wooden post, I had no doubt about its performance. It was like cutting through a block of butter with a hot knife. To match it powerful performance, Makita impact driver has a 3.0 Ah battery, this battery has twice the capacity compare to other brands. During my project, the battery provided roughly 8 hours power, but some other brands provide two smaller batteries to eliminate the waiting time to charge battery. This extra battery may be important for a contractor to avoid wasting time beside working. However, my project was not under time pressure that I could just plug in the battery after a few hours working in my back yard and have a cup of tea. Besides its powerful performance this impact driver is a reliable tool. Working outside, it was impossible to avoid dust or carefully operate the power tool like a delicate flower, but the Makita impact driver handled well in these conditions. It starts spinning every time that I pull the trigger. With those great features from above, the Makita impact driver still is a reasonably priced power tool. My Makita impact driver was under $150, it fits my limited home building budget. Additional to its reasonable price and the quality of work improvement, the money was well spent. To conclude, Makita impact driver is a powerful and reliable tool. Not only its reasonable price fits my home building budget, but also, its neat design enhanced my fun building experience. However, its heavy weight and inconvenience to access were minor problems to improve. This Makita impact driver has a simple task to put any size screws into any material. It will save the pain from force a screw into a log of wood or switch drill bit to predrill a hole to fit a large size screw. I will definitely give five stars to this product.

Amazing impact driver has delivered and performed to every task I have asked of it.However I realized why people love makita is that the tools are very well thought out, from the dual LED, ergonomic handle, battery indicator, speed of charge , ability to turn on light with out turning drill. Beast mode

I got this driver in a 5 piece kit and have been very impressed with the power and feel of the tool… It is probably one of the most comfortable grips I’ve had on a drill/impact and I have had several… Even though I gave it full 5 stars I do have one negative, I wish they would have at least given it a 3 speed shifter. I know you can buy the XDT14z and get a 3 speed and a couple job modes, but just saying with such a nice tool why not give the lower priced a little love, maybe even a 2 speed… This is just a minor gripe as I know the the Milwaukee valued at about the same price has a 3 speed….But with that said the smoothness, power and ergonomics of this tool make it a very good buy and would say probably the best overall for the price…..

Have brushless motor. very ergonomic to hand. driver is strong and very useful to DIY. Good and strong LED light. There are other Makita models with multiple speeds and more features.

Do not buy the compact black Makita impact if you’re going to use it for work. It does not last and will burn out on you. I bought one and it burnt out on me three or four times. So far this one is a much more durable impact.

I bought the hammer drill and impact driver set for Christmas. My first test with the impact driver as to remove a lawn mower blade from a old law mower that needed the blade sharpened. I thought this Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 1/4 in. Cordless Impact Driver would undo the 9/16 bolt without an issue. I tried it 4 different times and it would not undo the 20″ mower blade bolt. I was surprised at this, as it just hammered making the socket warm is all. I ended up just using a normal 1/2″ ratchet with the same socket to get it undone, with hardly any effort on my part. Maybe I just got a bad impact driver or the loosing torque is a lot less than the tightening torque. I like both of the tools, as they are my first cordless drill/impact driver set. Just my experience with the tool. Lawn mower blades torque spec is more more than 100 ft/lbs from what I have read. I should try it on my car lug nuts to see if it will remove them at 100 ft/lbs. It could be the 3 or 4 speed impact driver would have done the job, I don’t know.

I actually bought this to occasionally remove the lug nuts from my Silverado to rotate the tires, make other repairs and bring along on road trips, should I get a flat and need a quick fix. Normally, an impact wrench is called for but this was a much cheaper option so I thought it was worth a try.To be honest, I wasn’t optimistic it would work. My Silverado’s lug nuts are torqued at 140 ft. lbs. This one is only rated at 1500 in. lbs. which equals 125 ft. lbs. I figured it was worth a shot. If it didn’t work then I’d still have a great impact driver for normal uses. I slapped on a 4.0 ah battery, attached my 1/2 in. socket adapter and my 22mm impact socket, took a deep breath and thought, “this probably won’t work” and placed it on the lug nut. In only 3 short, 2 second squeezes of the trigger, it zipped the lug nut right off. I couldn’t believe it. I tried another just in case the other was loose. It did the same thing and then again with another. I thought I’d have to really hold it on there to fight it off but it was like it was made for it. This thing has some serious power. I even put them back on with the impact, then tightened them down with a torque wrench at 140 lbs. again to be sure this was happening and sure enough, they came off in a breeze. Incredible! This is a monster of an impact driver. I’m convinced that if this impact can do that, there isn’t much it can’t do.It’s a basic style driver. No speed settings but easy to control with the variable speed trigger. Like many Makita power tools, it has very comfortable grip and is lightweight and easy to use. Even with the larger battery, I didn’t strain at all. So far my experience with Makita power tools has been excellent. I’m very impressed with the quality. This one is also built well with a solid metal housing, no chuck wobble and nice rubber over molds. It’s just a great tool.Overall, if you couldn’t tell already, I’m super impressed. More impressed than I’ve ever been with a power tool and I can’t recommend it enough. I have no doubt it will serve me well for any reasonable task or project I can throw at it for years to come and it’ll do the same for you. Just get it already.

I bought and returned 3 Milwaukee impacts after bringing them home and experiencing temperamental charging stations and battery’s that seemed to wobble or feel loose when attached to the tool. Decided to purchase Makita and man I’m so glad I did. Right out of the box the quality difference was immediate. The tool felt more solid, the battery clicked into place under the tool with zero play or wobble and felt like it was all one piece. The battery even clicks into place on the charging station. IMO no comparison in quality control between the two. While I know Milwaukee is a top brand I feel like they have some quality control issues that need to be ironed out. That being said I’ll never buy anything else but Makita from here on out. Customer for life
