Makita delivers corded grinding performance without the cord with the 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 4-1/2 in./5 in. Cut-Off/Angle Grinder with Paddle Switch Kit (model XAG11T). It’s powered by a Makita brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed and longer tool life. For the most demanding applications, Makita’s exclusive Automatic Speed Change Technology automatically adjusts speed and torque during operation for optimal performance. For added convenience, the XAG11T has an electric brake that stops the wheel in 2-seconds or less upon release of the paddle switch. The 18-Volt LXT 5.0Ah battery charges in only 45-minutes for less downtime and increased productivity. The XAG11T is ideal for grinding, cutting and sanding a wide range of materials including tile, concrete, pipe, conduit and more. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the Star Symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside. This batter was bought to replace the original battery that quit after two charge phase. So far this one has taken one charge and is working OK. But the original battery went to Makita for replacement and I haven’t received the replacement yet. I would rate higher but so far I am seeing a 25% failure and that is not accecptable.

I am a professional cabinetmaker with 20 years of experience. You only see Makita or Dewalt tools on jobsites because they are the most power6and durable. I have found that the battery life on Makita tools is noticeably longer han Dewalt. I choose makita for this reason but I would recommend either.

Purchased this product to remove rust scale and flaking paint off of several shipping containers. Distant location from electricity and lots of ladder work dictated a smaller, lighter grinder. Used with twisted knot cone brush and wheel it made a daunting job almost fun. After the first day I was able to use it with one hand or the other which greatly extended the reach from the ladder. I would recommend hearing protection when grinding sheet metal like this, along with a dust mask to reduce inhalation hazards. With the 5AH batteries supplied, I was able to get about 40 minutes of constant work out of a charge. The second battery was almost always charged up by then, so there was very little interruption in the work flow waiting for batteries to charge. A couple days of priming with corrosion sealant and they took two coats of high gloss enamel like a charm. Lowered the temp inside them by 30 degrees.
