Makita, a pioneer in brushless motor technology and battery innovation, combines both in the 18V X2 LXT (36V) Lithium-Ion Brushless 7” Paddle Switch/Angle Grinder with Electric Brake. It’s powered by two 18V Lithium-Ion batteries (batteries and charger sold separately) for 36V power and performance, and has an electronically-controlled BL Brushless motor that matches torque and RPM to the application. Makita 18V X2 means freedom from the cord, even for demanding applications like grinding and cut-off applications that often call for a corded grinder. Best of all, users can remain in one battery platform, using the same fast-charging 18V batteries on the XAG12Z1 as they use across the Makita 18V LXT cordless tool system. The XAG12Z1 is equipped with efficiency features for maximum performance. The electric brake stops the grinding or cut-off wheel in 4.5 second or less for maximum productivity, and the Electronic Torque Control turns the motor off if rotation speed suddenly slows or the wheel is forced to a stop. For consistent performance, Automatic Speed Change technology adjust speed and torque during operation. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.
- The BL™ Brushless Motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the BL™ Motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life; delivers 7,800 RPM
- Two 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries deliver corded power without leaving the 18V LXT® battery platform (batteries not included)
- Electric brake stops the grinding or cut-off wheel in 4.5 seconds or less for maximum productivity
- Active Feedback-sensing Technology (AFT®) turns the motor off if rotation of the wheel is suddenly forced to stop
- Automatic Speed Change™ technology adjusts speed and torque during operation for optimum performance
- Vibration absorbing back handle is isolated from the motor housing effectively reducing vibration to the operator’s hands
- Rear handle paddle switch with no lock-on feature
- Efficient BL™ Brushless motor is electronically controlled to optimize battery energy use for up to 50% longer run time per charge
- The electronically-controlled BL™ Brushless Motor efficiently uses energy to match torque and RPM to the changing demands of the application
- Soft start suppresses start-up reaction for smooth start-ups and longer gear life
- Anti-restart protection engineered to prevent motor start up when battery is inserted with switch locked on
- Weighs only 11.4 lbs. with battery (battery not included) for reduced operator fatigue
- Rubberized soft grip handle provides increased comfort on the job
- L.E.D. battery charge indicator alerts user of drained power for each of the two batteries (batteries not included)
- Large spindle lock button for easier wheel changes while wearing gloves
- Protective roll cage helps protect batteries from damage due to common everyday handling (batteries not included)

Works great. Charges different batteries at different times which works out great. Doesn’t over heat the other battery when charging.

I have now had this 7″ grinder for approximately six months. In first looking at the description you may think this is just an 18 volt 7″ grinder, but read on, it’s two 18 volt batteries combined to equal 36 volts. Grab hold this tool is approx. 10 plus pounds including the two batteries and has a lot of torque. This is a high tech tool from the batteries, dual port (fan cooled) charger and the electronically-controlled brushless motor. It is also muti.- functional, it will except everything from a 1/16″ cut off wheel, 1/4″ grinding wheel, abrasive disk, wire wheel or wire cup brush or a diamond (wet/dry) cut off wheel. The kit comes with a thin cut off wheel and a grinding wheel. As a bonus, Makita (A big Thank You) sent a 7″ (wet/dry) segmented diamond cutting blade, which I have used most of all. In the last six months I have installed over 100- 16″ x 16″ x 2″ paver blocks and approx. 40- 20″ x 20″ x 2″ patio blocks. I can’t say how many lineal feet I have cut, but the blade seems to be cutting the same as the very first cut. The included carrying case is a welcome and needed feature too. While it holds the 10 plus components that come with the tool there is plenty of room for additional items or accessories. A little trick I have learned is to make copies of the owners manuals and put them in a sealed freezer bag in the case. If you are in the trades, at least get a copy of the owners manual and read thru it, you will see all the options, to many to list, this tool has. And then you will want one, but not mine.

Grinds like a angle grinder should. Safety is number 1, if you are not handy, this is a very powerful tool. I use it when I am redoing rust spots on my car, this one even works beret than my old corded one. This grinder comes with a pair of lithium batteries and a charger. this charger even has a USB built in for keeping my phone or noise cancelling Bluetooth earphones fully charged. The batteries can be used in my other Makita products, can’t have too many batteries!! I always “Test drive” new tools, so I don’t ruin my project, and it worked better than I thought. Everything fits in the carry bag. There is even more room for extra blades, goggles, and mouth dust cover.

Solid unit. I haven’t used it a ton yet, but so far it’s just like a plug in.

This is a 7” grinder. The kit comes with 2 batteries, a dual battery charger, storing bag, 2 grinder guards (slicing/grinding), a handle, a wrench, slicing wheel, and grinding wheel. This tool is very powerful for being battery powered. Don’t be fooled by the fact that it is cordless. This is a 36V tool and therefore 2 batteries must be installed at the same time in order to be able to power the tool. Full charging of the batteries takes approximately 50 minutes. The slicing wheel guard has a quick release feature for moving the guard around for different cutting angles. The handle can be installed in both sides. The tool weighs approximately 13 pounds with batteries and ready to go. There is a printed arrow on the tool to match diamond blade rotating direction. The tool comes with an automatic speed change. What that means is that the tool will auto adjust its speed based on the loading condition. Awesome tool too have around the house if you do any steel, concrete or other kind of heavy duty cutting activity.

With two batteries on the charger, I never have to stop due to a low battery

Works as advertised. Never have problems with it. I have both OEM batteries as well as aftermarket and both get the quick charge I need and expect.

Lucky you only had 1 left. Love it because I just purchased 2 6.0 batteries and this came in handy for recharging. As you know the project hasto go on, so when 1 battery runs out there’s always a backup. Will probably get another one sometime this year.

I have been using cordless power tools for years. In fact, I cannot remember the last time I used a corded tool (think it was my Dremel)? The problem with cordless, is the battery and charger graveyard. Every couple years, the 12V model, gets replaced by the 18V model, which gets replaced by the 19.2V model, replaced by the 40V model, etc. So, it was nice to see Makita increasing the capabilities, by doubling the battery and not coming out with a new battery/charger. This comes with 2 batteries, and is ‘compatible with Makita 18V lithium-ion batteries with a star symbol’.My test run was on my basement floor. Years ago, someone cemented the floor and put in a sump. Problem is, the sump is centered on a wall, which is not the lowest spot in the basement. As the basement fills with water, the water goes around the sump to the other side of the basement. I figured, by cutting a small groove in the floor, I can gutter the water to the sump, and keep half my basement dry, and the other half shallower. This grinder did the job so quickly, I barley drained the battery.A grinder, is an ideal thing to be cordless, but this does weigh a lot (12.57 pounds with batteries), and based on how powerful it is, I would consider the 2 battery model Professional Grade. This is my first Makita power tool, and I am very impressed. I definitely will be adding more Makita 18V’s to my collection.
