Makita has delivered a cordless and spark-free cutting solution for rebar and steel rod with the 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion cordless rebar cutter (model XCS01T). The XCS01T has a cutting capacity of up to # 6-3/4 In. rebar, with a cutting head that rotates a full 360°. The long-lasting cutting blade provides up to 4,000 cuts before requiring replacement. It is an ideal solution for work away from a power source or in remote locations. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. STAR Protection is communication technology that allows the star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating STAR Protection inside.

I have used all kinds of batteries for multiple brands and systems but none of them compare to the 5a. The star protection keeps you going through the whole job. One 5a battery all day or multiple 3a batteries throughout your day? You decide but I’ll take only one battery for the job any day.

The charger works fine, but it does NOT charge up a 6Ah battery, as I had hoped (& as was listed on the packaging & elsewhere). I will be returning this charger & starting all over to research just what kind of charger I need for 6Amphour batteries for my Makita cordless hedge trimmer. Meanwhile, I’m stuck with my old plug-in trimmer (limited distance from house) or the machete & loppers!

This batter was bought to replace the original battery that quit after two charge phase. So far this one has taken one charge and is working OK. But the original battery went to Makita for replacement and I haven’t received the replacement yet. I would rate higher but so far I am seeing a 25% failure and that is not accecptable.
