Clean-ups just got easier with the Makita 18-Volt X2 LXT Lithium-Ion (36-Volt) Cordless/Corded 2.1 Gallon Dry Vacuum. The XCV04Z (tool only) offers corded or cordless operation for maximum versatility and convenience. In cordless operation, the XCV04Z is powered by two 18-Volt LXT batteries for 36-Volt power and run-time, without leaving the 18-Volt LXT battery platform. Using two 18-Volt 5.0Ah batteries (sold separately), the XCV04Z delivers up to 65 minutes of continuous run time on low setting and 40 minutes on high setting, with 74 CFM and 36 in. water lift of suction. In corded operation, the vacuum delivers 74 CFM and 36 in. water lift. The 19.7 in. power cord combined with the anti-static hoses (1-1/2-Volt x 8 in. or 1 in. x 11 in., both included) provide extended range for efficient cleaning. The XCV04Z is engineered for efficient cleaning with a 3-stage filtration system consisting of a Pre-Filter Bag (captures larger dust particulates), Damper Filter (captures much smaller particulates) and Main Filter (captures micro particles). All three filter components are included. The XCV04Z is loaded with ease-of-use features. The over-size on-off switch, variable speed control dial, and dual L.E.D. battery indicators are clearly visible and easily accessible on the front of the vacuum. Additional features include quick-release metal latches, large rubber bumper, and rear casters with locking levers.

This vacuum may be the best shop vac I’ve used. Other users complain about the lack of power and usage duration with batteries, but I don’t think Makita intended the vacuum to be used primarily for cordless use (the technology is just not there yet). I love the huge on/off button on the top that you can hit with a small tap of your foot — makes it very convenient to shut off/on when you’re in the shop. The speed control is great when you want a little less noise and you don’t need full power. The hoses feel very durable, especially compared to other brands. I found the power cord to be plenty long (I can walk the vac all over my 20’x30′ garage and stay plugged into the same outlet). Another great thing about this product is that if your other tools are Makita brand then the hoses will fit your dust collection ports on the tools (so far I’ve used an Orbital Sander BO5041K, Biscuit Joiner PJ7000, and Router RF1101.) The small capacity of this vac doesn’t bother me because I’ve paired it with a cyclone dust collector system with a 20gal drum that I use in my garage/woodshop.I would say the only downside to this vacuum is that you can’t store all of the attachments, hoses, etc. very neatly on the vacuum itself. So if you’re wanting something that you can take on the go without dropping the accessories everywhere, maybe there’s another vac out there better suited for that.

This Makita corded and cordless dry vacuum cleaner is very well made. Mine was delivered with a 38 and 22 mm diameter hoses for picking up large and small waste respectively. Also provided were a straight and bent pipe, floor brush, corner nozzle, batteries and battery charger, ten extra polyethylene bags, and what I think may be two “front cuffs”. (I will explain later.) No brush suitable for dusting was included; however, this may be purchased separately. The unit has a lot of suction power for its small size and the amount of suction is adjustable. The vacuum is amazingly quiet. On the negative side the instruction manual says not to pull the unit around by the hose; however, that is how I normally vacuum. The unit also does not move easily, the wheels do not swivel very well. I found myself having to stop vacuuming in order to go back to the unit to manually change its direction. Also, when vacuuming the floor I found the bent pipe extension that is attached to the floor brush to be very awkward to use. It is great for getting under objects but for general vacuuming use of the garage or shop floor I was very uncomfortable in pushing the brush across the floor; it seemed to take more effort than my old garage vac.The unit will operate without its batteries installed which is a nice feature. The use of disposable polyethylene bags greatly simplifies disposing of the collected waste. You must read the instruction manual in detailed to completely understand the correct procedures for cleaning the various filters so they are not accidentally damaged. My unit came with two additional parts that I could not readily identify and which are not addressed in the instruction manual. I searched on the internet and found them to possible be “Front Cuffs”. Apparently, they are meant to allow me to attach other vacuum accessories of different hose diameters. Reportedly, the cuffs screw into the hoses that came with the unit so I can attach one of my many accessories which I have accumulated over the years from previous garage vacuums. However, the “cuffs” would not screw into either one of the unit’s vacuum hoses or attach to any of my other accessories. I did not want to ruin the cuffs by forcing them to fit. I provided a couple pictures of the unit. One is a picture of my storage mode of the unit. There is a nice and neat picture of how the unit assembly should look when done vacuuming and you are storing it till the next time. No matter what I tried I could not get my storage configuration to look like the one in the book. The AC cord does not wrap around the storage box in back of the unit, and etcetera.Basically, I am disappointed with this vacuum.

I own it for a 3 months, using almost every day for little cleanups like some sanding dust etc, very good suction on batteries and super quiet, little louder when used with cord 120V but still quiet, better and quieter then Milwaukee backpack one which I also tried for a few weeks and returned for refund.

You have to clean the pre-filter often so it doesn’t lose suction but good vacuum really quite compare to my old ridgid
