The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver (model XDT11SY) delivers power and speed in a compact size for a full range of driving and fastening tasks, with a fast-charging 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Battery for less downtime. The XDT11SY features a Makita-built 4-pole motor with variable speed (0 RPM to 2,900 RPM and 0 IPM to 3,500 IPM) that delivers 1,460 in./lbs. of maximum Torque. At only 5-3/8 in. L and 2.8 lbs. (with battery), it has a compact and ergonomic design with less weight for reduced operator fatigue and a rubberized soft grip for increased comfort on the job. The built-in LED light illuminates the job area for applications in dark spaces and close quarters. Makita’s entire line-up of impact drivers including the XDT11SY is engineered with a proprietary hammer and anvil impact mechanism that is manufactured using the best raw materials with the highest quality steel, as well as a unique heat-hardening process for maximum fastening and driving power. With Extreme Protection Technology (XPT), the XDT11SY is engineered for improved water and dust resistance for operation in harsh job site conditions. This is my first impact driver and I am a big Makita fan (30 years). This driver with the two batteries has plenty of charge in putting together a small deck (only used one battery and it lasted). It drove the deck screws smoothly and easily versus the old way with drilling holes so not to split the wood and then with a drill bit to set the screws. I would recommend!

It just doesn’t have the power, it started to heat up after using it for maybe 30 minutes, and it feels lightweight in comparison to some other brands like Milwaukee. Gets the job done, but it’s average.

Wow! what a difference a few volts can make. I upgraded from a 3 yr old 12 volt Makita impact driver to this 18 volt one, I barely have to touch the screw to the board and it feels like it is just sucked in with barely any pressure being applied by me. If there is a difference in the weight I don’t notice it because its so fast and smooth. I might have to buy another one for my husband so he wont keep barrowing mine and misplacing it!
