Last summer, I had a fun home project, to build a full-size deck in my back yard. During my research for style and technique to build this deck, Makita impact driver appeared in the research list, as a “must have tool for builders”. Firstly, I thought this is just another rebranded power tool, that the manufacture can trick people to buy for a higher price. However, after accomplished my building project with my Makita impact driver. This new tool’s performance changed my mind. The Makita impact driver was a surprisingly powerful tool, reliable and cost effective, however, its heavy weight and inconvenience to purchase was only two minor issues that I dislike about this product. My first impression of this impact driver was small and compact tool compare to my regular power drill. Consequently, its smaller size made me question its capability. After screwed a few 6 inches long screws into a solid wooden post, I had no doubt about its performance. It was like cutting through a block of butter with a hot knife. To match it powerful performance, Makita impact driver has a 3.0 Ah battery, this battery has twice the capacity compare to other brands. During my project, the battery provided roughly 8 hours power, but some other brands provide two smaller batteries to eliminate the waiting time to charge battery. This extra battery may be important for a contractor to avoid wasting time beside working. However, my project was not under time pressure that I could just plug in the battery after a few hours working in my back yard and have a cup of tea. Besides its powerful performance this impact driver is a reliable tool. Working outside, it was impossible to avoid dust or carefully operate the power tool like a delicate flower, but the Makita impact driver handled well in these conditions. It starts spinning every time that I pull the trigger. With those great features from above, the Makita impact driver still is a reasonably priced power tool. My Makita impact driver was under $150, it fits my limited home building budget. Additional to its reasonable price and the quality of work improvement, the money was well spent. To conclude, Makita impact driver is a powerful and reliable tool. Not only its reasonable price fits my home building budget, but also, its neat design enhanced my fun building experience. However, its heavy weight and inconvenience to access were minor problems to improve. This Makita impact driver has a simple task to put any size screws into any material. It will save the pain from force a screw into a log of wood or switch drill bit to predrill a hole to fit a large size screw.

Bought the drill back in 2018. Today was the first time I used it pretty extensively for drilling holes into concrete blocks with the hammer mode. Tried to change it to off hammer mode and into drill mode and it won’t get away from hammer mode. It’s stuck.Contacted Makita to see what they can do. Home Depot sells this brand but also doesn’t repair it according to their repair tool page…

I’ve used this drill to drill out multiple holes in a hard wood floor. The drill feels durable and held up great compared to other cheaper drills I’ve owed. Im happy with this purchase so far
Arlene Cummerata (verified owner) –
Plenty of power and torque to drill into brick and concrete.

Cuts through my bamboo like butter!

The drill met all expectations – – having two spare batteries from a recent purchase of a Makita 36 volt circular saw sealed the deal. Charge life through heavy drilling and screwing is excellent, and the hammer feature is a great bonus.

Everything Makita is top of the line and this drill follows suit! We’ve only used it for a small project so far, but it worked well and we can’t wait to use it on the next one too.

The relatively light weight makes it nice for use on ladders, and its price point takes some of the edge off when wet weather takes its toll.
