The ergonomics of this drill, with the outrigger handle attached are as good as any other LXT I have. The weight is heavy for cordless but not as bad as expected. Where it shines is in it’s raw power and control.I spent much of the last two days drilling 1″ diameter holes in white oak 6x8s for concrete anchors and pegs. My old heavy duty LXT drill would do it under protest, this drill just smiled and pushed on. It even walked in some 8 ” Spax screws that my impact driver gave up on- without hesitation (again into white oak).Battery life is pretty good. To be fair, I was mostly using the new 4 amp hour batteries, but I was drilling big holes in hard wood. The drill is well balanced and the light is useful if you are working in dark spaces. Without the side handle, the torque may be too much, with it, my big right angle drills will be collecting dust.

This drill has all kinds of power and is by far the best cordless drill I have used since my first Makita 7.2v cordless back in the mid-late 80’s. The downfall of this drill though is the cheap chuck. All metal construction, but I think it is recycled tinfoil. A couple years use and it will not hold a drill bit tight to save your soul. Chuck jaws are out of alignment and there is no way you can get them to stay tight. Buy it for the drill, then immediately take that garbage chuck off and replace it with a Jacobs keyless chuck and be happy for years and years.

Despite being only a little bigger than my other cordless Makita drill, this thing is MUCH more powerful. It’s easily capable of running a mixing blade in a 5 gallon bucket of cement or drywall mud. The handle is very easy to attach, and remove, and gives plenty of leverage.
