The Makita 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2 in. Driver-Drill (model XFD10R) delivers power, performance and superior ergonomics in a compact size, with a fast-charging battery for less down time. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside. The XFD10R is powered by a Makita built 4-pole motor that delivers 480 in. / lbs. of MAX Torque, with an all-metal 2-speed transmission (0-600/0-1,900 RPM). It has a compact and ergonomic design with less weight and superior balance for reduced operator fatigue and a rubberized soft grip for increased comfort on the job. This drill is on the heavy side, BUT this is good for steady handling, the lighted drill area is great, I have owned this drill for over 7 yrs and still going strong, Best on the market with a back up battery.

Does what it is supposed to. Battery life is a little lacking, thought a charge would last longer.

I have always loved the Makita Brand. I bought this one to replace my original Makita that was purchased over 15 years ago and has seen many remodels and constant use. It still worked. The only reason I replaced it was because the batteries wore out after 15 years and it costs about the same to replace the batteries as it did to buy a new drill.

My old cordless drill was 20 years old. This one certainly performs better. Lighter, more power and charges faster. It took a few tries to get the chuck tightened down enough so the drill bit didn’t slip, but since I learned that there is a ratcheting system in the chuck I have not had any problems.

This drill is very powerful and and can get the job done. The drill is pretty light weight and comes complete with a heavy duty travel case. This drill also comes with an extra battery and a charger. The battery has a long lasting life of about 5-7 hours per charge. When dead the battery does not take long to charge. The charger is well labelled and has different lights for if the battery is charging, broken, or completely charged. It is an all around great product at an incredible price.

This drill is light weight, smaller than most standard drills, able to use in tighter spaces, and easy to control, but has the same power as my equivalent Ryobi, and Dewalt. Good price. I purchased this drill after using one at work, and liked the feel of it. I would recommend this drill for home, and or work!

This drill was to replace a 15+ year old Makita drill that is very similar. I decided to replace it as the batteries were getting near the end of their life and the run time had dropped. It makes no sense to by Makita batteries at 2/3 the cost of a new kit and I have not had good results with after market batteries. This drill has excellent balance and good power. I have several other drills but this is the one I use the most. I am a remodel contractor and give my tools a lot of hard use. My only complaint is that as the drill gets older, it is more difficult to get a tight grip on a drill bit in the chuck. I also like the hard shell case.

So far so good. I like the weight, balance and the way the grip fits my hand. The trigger pressure response is fast with a lot of power. Lets see how it performs in a few months
