The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Driver-Drill (XFD12Z, tool only, batteries and charger sold separately) is an ideal drilling and driving solution for the user who wants a drill with superior power-to-weight ratio. The XFD12Z combines 530 in lbs. of Max Torque with an efficient brushless motor that delivers up 50% more work per charge, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. For the pro user, this means more drilling and driving power, greater productivity, and fewer trips up and down the scaffolding or ladder to get to the battery charger. In driver mode, the adjustable torque settings provide more control for a full range of applications, from large fasteners to smaller, delicate screws. It weighs only 3.4 lbs. (with 2.0Ah battery, sold separately) for increased comfort and superior power-to-weight ratio. The XFD12Z is compatible with Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion batteries, from the fast-charging 18-Volt LXT Compact 2.0Ah battery to full-size 18-Volt LXT batteries for longer run time. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating.

Nice drill and batteries w/ charger. Comes with about a quarter charge so u can use it out of the box. Only complaint is that it does not want to tighten up screws even on the highest torque setting. Otherwise I am very pleased with the unit.

I’ve only had this drill for a month but I have used it on a couple small projects and I like it. What else can you say, it’s a drill. It does drilly things very well. But seriously, I think it’s well made and I think Makita makes good quality tools. It has a comfortable grip and plenty of power. I would definitely recommend this tool.

Literally pulled it out of the box and used it. Pros: Lightweight. Sensitive and controllable trigger speed. Powerful. Cons: It wasn’t free. But good money spent.

Thankful for the hard carrying case to easily tote around. The battery charger has charged batteries very quickly. And the drill has worked well, no issues yet.

I thought I was getting the smallest 18V Makita drill. This unit is slightly larger and heavier and has longer rated batteries. Not getting their smallest and lightest unit was a disappointment. However this is a high quality product and performs well. Just perhaps a little too much speed and torque for the light cabinet work I need to do. Its pricey compared to the Dewalt 20v equivalent, but likely a better product based on the reviews.Lets see how I feel after 6 months and the completion of the cabinet work.

This is replacing the Makita bought 25 years ago. So far it is excellent.

I originally bought a Dewalt DCD791D2 in the store. That driver lasted less than a week before the gearbox completely failed and only had slow speed. I returned it and immediately ordered the Makita and waited about a week for it. Yes, my project got delayed but, as I’m just a home user I didn’t mind waiting so long as the product was going to be worth it. Hands down, the Makita is everything the Dewalt wasn’t. After using this thing to complete my bed project I am completely sold on the Makita brand. It just works. Save yourself the pain of buying anything less than the Makita. It is worth every penny, even if you have to wait on this particular model.

I like this tool! With the 2.0Ah battery, the drill is balanced, fits the hand well, is compact, and has plenty of grunt. The drill chuck works well and locks for a great grip on round drill bits.I had slight reservations about how much work I could get out of one “small” battery but since the kit came with 2 batteries and a fast charger I figured I could easily change out batteries as I worked. Well no worries about that, you will be taking a break before you need to change batteries. I kept rough track of what 1 fully charged, still new battery could do on a single charge: removed 100 1/4″ x 1 1/2″ screws, drove 100 1/4″ x 1 1/2″ screws in new lumber, drilled 2 dozen 3/16″ pilot holes, drove 2 dozen 1/4″ x 2″ screws into those pilot holes, drilled a dozen Kreg pocket holes, drove 4 dozen #9 x 3″ screws, and drilled a dozen or so 1/8″ holes. I couldn’t believe it either. I ran it the whole time with the torque setting on 1.Makita makes great tools and I hope that this tool lasts a while.
