The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Plate Joiner (model XJP03Z, tool only) provides portability and performance in the field or in the shop, without the cord. The XJP03Z combines power and precision with ease-of-use features for strong and accurate biscuit joints for furniture making, cabinet construction and fine woodworking applications. (note: battery and charger sold separately) It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the Star Symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside. The XJP03Z provides up to 320 cuts or 160 joints on a single charge (18-Volt LXT 3.0Ah battery, sold separately). This promotion also includes a bonus BL1850B 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery.

This and a few other carpentry-specific tools are the prime reason I decided to jump on the Makita bandwagon. Makita just seems to pay more attention to precision carpentry stuff, and this is one example of a tool no one (at the time of this review at least) has an answer for.But even if anyone else did, it’s hard to imagine anyone topping it. The build quality of this thing is immaculate. Just quality machining all over this thing. Just like Makita’s (ridiculously awesome) compact cordless router. If you have a frequent enough use for plate joining that a cordless unit becomes worth looking at, you can’t go wrong here.

Last much longer than the 3.0. A bit pricey though

This batter was bought to replace the original battery that quit after two charge phase. So far this one has taken one charge and is working OK. But the original battery went to Makita for replacement and I haven’t received the replacement yet. I would rate higher but so far I am seeing a 25% failure and that is not accecptable.

They seem to be lasting longer then the 3.0 I have. Not happy with the charging time, it states it’s a quick charger, but takes an hour to recharge the batteries.

Great product that holds a charge for a long time. Provides power when needed for big projects without having to worry about stopping for a charge or swap out batteries. I like the battery charge remaining lights so I know how much work I still can get from it.

Had this for less than a month and it’s already been a part of 16 projects. I’m not a fan of the dust bag so I don’t use it.

I like checking the fuel gauge on the battery no more guessing how much battery I have left thank Dewalt.
