The 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Grass Shear (model XMU04Z, tool only, batteries and charger sold separately) is a compact and cordless solution for grass trimming and cutting. The XMU04Z has dual blade action and a wide 6-5/16 in. cutting width and delivers faster blade speed (2,500 strokes per minute/SPM) than the previous model. When using a fast-charging 18-Volt LXT 5.0 Ah battery (sold separately), users will get up to 200-minutes of run time on a single charge. It has 3-stage adjustment so the cutting height can be matched to the application. Additional features include a rubberized soft grip handle, tool-less blade changing, non-electrolyzed nickel plated blades to resist staining and rusting and a compact size at only 4.1 lbs. (with battery, sold separately).

I have several Makita 18v tools and am happy with the quality and performance. Bought this to trim several shrubs that the hedge trimmer is a bit large for the space I have to work in. It cuts will up to about 1/4 inch after that it’s iffy. Cuts most of the twigs/branches on my shrubs. This is a quality tool that I expect will give me great long service like all my other Makita tools.

This is an expensive product. Originally, I opted for the cheaper Black and Decker product but it was not much more than a toy. This is a solid, heavy duty product. A little on the heavy side because I got the largest battery to go with it, but I am very pleased with the quality. I don’t actually use it to trim grass. I use it to dead head plants in my garden. I can trim a 2 gallon potted mum with spent blossoms in under a minute.I wondered if I would regret paying this much for this type of tool, but once I used it I knew this purchase was a good investment.
