This is not the first tool of this type I have owned. I have owned cheaper units, which were cordless.This tool has great torque, and good contours on the body of it. It is an improvement over what I had before. I also have quality corded spiral tools, such quality as this, and the convenience of cordless with similar quality is tremendous! When you are marching around making holes in different places, cords arn’t cool. This is cool.Makita tools, look simplistic. They always perform, and always last, for me. This tool performs as well as my corded units. Lithium has changed the game, thankfully, on cordless.This item has NO battery or charger! You must already have 18V Makita packs, or buy them, in order to use this tool.Tool bit changes are easy as well. The foot is small enough to get into tighter places, and allows good access for bit changes. The tool is solid, yet easy to manage. I like it!TIP: Don’t rely on just one bit. Have lots of spares. They do get dull, they do break. You can also use other types of bits.

It works really great on sheetrock and other soft materials. However does not work well with wood. I borrowed one that was a different brand while on a jobsite to straighten up someone’s butcher block countertop in a slide in range cavity and it was extremely impressive. But I am already locked into the makita platform pretty heavily so of course I picked up this one. Don’t get me wrong it does a great job it was my expectations based on another brands version that has me disappointed.

The nut or bolt that holds the cutting attachment in place comes loose while your cutting. Always having to keep tigthing it.

Needed cordless unit to sharpen tungsten for tig welding and found this gem. Already had the battery from my LXT drill. OMG this works great with diamond wheels and does the job in about 15 seconds each end sharpened due to that 30k rpm. I was gonna go with a dedicated $300 hobbyist tunsten sharpener, but I hate expensive one purpose tools. At $130 & being cordless, I don’t think this tool only option can be beat especially coming from Makita. If you need a 1/4″ collet (DOES NOT COME WITH UNIT & original part is hard to find) like me,then you will need to purchase one separately. I read another review saying that the collets @ the following link will work and I’ve already bought it. It works great! To sharpen tungsten I just stand the unit up on the battery and the tungsten comes out pencil sharp with all the grind marks in the correct direction. The unit will only move from vibration and torque when turned on and off which makes this tool about the smoothest tool of this type I know.Therefore I can use both hands to hold onto the tungsten for the best results.
