The 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion 1/2 in. Hammer Driver-Drill (model XPH03Z, tool only) delivers a full 750 in. lbs. of Max Torque and 18% more speed, yet it is more compact and weighs less than the previous model. The XPH03Z has the torque and speed that contractors demand and it is engineered for increased resistance to water and dust. For drilling and driving, Makita has delivered a total solution. (battery and charger sold separately) It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created star protection computer controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

worked great

Solid like a tank, heavy but there’s where it’s solidity comes from. Seems very durable and it is very aggressive when it comes drilling. Good power. Nice design, chuck seems very well made. Stylish too. Great torque for driving. Great tool for the heavy duty worker.

Check the insertion slot for the battery on this hammer drill. There is a small metal tab sticking up on one side preventing the insertion of the BL 1815 battery. Simply cut open the notch that is already in the battery to allow it to pass the metal tab. Very easy way to see where/what is preventing the BL 1815 battery insertion is to attempt to slide it in several times, then you can see exactly where the tab is hitting. I already have several BL 1815 batteries and did not want to buy another battery such as the BL 1830. Runs fine using the BL 1815, hope this is helpful

I bought this as a replacement to my LXFD01. This is a little heavier but the power is there. Already used it to put together hard maple cabinets no problem, drilled anchors in concrete no problem. My main problem is with Makita not stating that the BL1815 battery would not fit. You would think that it would as it is listed a 18 volt product. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to make them fit. With a file ground a small groove in the battery pack so it would slip in, works like a charm. I have 4 BL1815 batteries and did not want to give them up.Overall this drill has lots more power with a little more weight but still easy to use and manageable size for tight places. I recommend this drill to anyone. If it was not for the battery, I would have rated this much higher

Purchased this because I’m a big fan of all my other Makita products. You can make the BL 1815 batteries fit this hammer drill by simply cutting a slot in the battery to allow the small metal tab it sticks out underneath the drill to pass through that Slot in the battery. If you try to slide the BL 1815 battery in and bump it several times against that you will see exactly where it is hitting the battery and what is preventing you from using that battery. BL 1830 offers some other upgrades or advances however I prefer not to spend $99 when I already have 2 Of the 18 V BL 1815 batteries

Unit is very heavy, and somewhat cumbersome. The forward & reverse switching is very bad. I would have expected more from Makita, and for the price. I already had a Makita charger, and batteries, therefore I stuck with the same brand when shopping for this drill.

I have used the Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion 1/2 in. Cordless Hammer Driver/Drill for years. This is my second one. My first was not a hammer drill. I ride them hard and put them away wet and they just keeps on going

This drill replace the old heavy Bosch 18v. Need to use the handle attachment other wise it will twist your both hands.

Makita almost always makes good products that do what they say they will do. Would have been nice to have a spare battery included for the price. That aside, the tool did a fine job on the only job so far.

It’s a Makita, which is the majority of my power tools. It drills into my foundation easily and quickly with Bosch bits. Very good run time on year old batteries.
