I really like this package of hammer+drill. Even though I won’t use the hammer capability but perhaps 10% of the time, it’s there if I need it, and it was the same price as the one without hammer capability. Why Home Depot doesn’t stock this in-store is a big miss in my opinion.

Having gradually gone thru the Makita line from the days of the 9 Volt and 12 Volt, the 18 Volt delivers everything I expected from a Makita. Has more than enough torque and buying the setup with 2 Batteries give you the flexibility to keep on going with your project. While there are more heavy duty drills/drivers on the market, the Makita is perfect for the average homeowner. Costs a little more, but worth it.

To change a bit I am not able to hold the chuck tight enough with my grip. I have to use a set of channel locks to hold the chuck. Any advise

Generally I am pleased with the Makita hammer drill. I thought it would be a bit lighter than it is and I have a Craftsman drill that has a couple of clips that hold frequently used screwdriver bits (straight & Phillips) but that very nice feature is not on the Makita drill. So far, though I have not yet used it much, the battery seems to hold its charge quite well. The case for it is great — not only does it hold the drill & charger but it has a place for drill bits or screwdriver bits that is very useful.

Excellent met all my expectations!

Platic chuck is a bummer, descent noise levels considering rpm and power… just needs a metal chuck, and it would be perfect.

Did it meet my expectations- Well yes – I have never had a Makita tool not meet my expectation. They are the best. Nuff said.

I was attracted to this drill after seeing one of my contractors using it. For a long time, I had my doubts about battery-operated tools, since power and charge length were usually under-whelming. However, this drill performed well for the home renovation tasks for which my contractor was using it. I did some additional research and, when I discovered that my local Home Depot had a special deal that included this and another drill, I was “sold”. Thus far, three weeks on, I’ve been using it for an attic project (installing floor boards) and have been completely satisfied.Additionally, as a result of this drill’s performance, I also purchased one of Makita’s battery-powered circular saws, which has also performed admirably.
