Makita is the innovation leader in Brushless Motor technology and the 18-Volt LXT Brushless Hammer Driver-Drill (XPH12Z, tool only) combines power and run-time for more drilling, driving and fastening tasks in wood, metal and masonry. The efficient Makita BL Brushless Motor is electronically controlled and engineered for longer run time, increased power and speed and longer tool life. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. The variable 2-speed Brushless Motor delivers up to 2,000 RPM and 530 in. lbs. of MAX torque for efficient fastening. It weighs only 4.2 lbs. (with battery) with an LED light that illuminates the job area for applications in dark spaces. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Ordered this drill as Christmas gift to my son since this is the one he chose after reviewing a number of other brands. Also based on the fact I have owned and used Makita tools for years.

I have dewalt brushless, Milwaukee brushless, and this drill. This is my new favorite drill. I packed the other 2 away.

This product was purchased and found to be defective. The drill got stuck in Hammer Mode. Makita support contacted me, and shipped me a brand new unit within a couple days. The hammer mode issue has already been resolved in production and my new unit is trouble free. Excellent customer service and support, and Makita products are highly recommended!

Bought this in a combo kit with a brushless impact driver and brushless 6 1/2″ circular saw. This drill is the best I’ve owned. Coming from a Ryobi basic drill and Ryobi brushless hammer drill. It is A LOT lighter and smaller than both Ryobi’s (apples to apples both Makita and Ryobi with 4ah batteries). Also the driver feature on the Makita is a lot more true in each setting vs the Ryobi. Like past reviewers said it gets stuck in other settings NOT THE CASE! Makita must have addressed the issue because I have yet to experience this and tried all settings.

I am an electrical contractor an use this drill almost every day. Its perfect for drilling in screws and threw studs. The hammer drill clutch is great for putting in tapcons or any other small to medium anchors but if your doing concrete work all day, I would go with one a little more powerful. I highly recommend this drill because of its light weight, compact size, and power behind it!

Love this drill. Have used hard for about 8 years so suppose it does not owe me any more. Gears finally stripped while driving deck screws. Fan for life.

Bought this because I needed a drill for light concrete drilling. The drill does the job. My exepreice is that I haven’t noticed any of the issues early reviewers reported. This is after multiple days of drilling using the both hammer mode and regular mode. It’s a handsome tool that feels integrated and sturdy. It inspires confidence during use. It will drain a 2.0 ah battery fast. Trigger take up is top sensitive. Droll gets on power too fast.
