The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Planer (model XPK01Z, tool only) combines the speed and capacity of a corded planer with the convenience of cordless. The result is fast and accurate stock removal, without the cord. This tool is part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, an extensive cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt lithium-ion slide-style battery that offers an exceptionally fast charge time. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls, which allows the STAR-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can be powered by any Makita 18-Volt LXT and compact lithium-ion batteries displaying the star symbol.

Really like this cordless version! It is a bit heavier then the corded version but the well worth the weight difference to have the freedom to roam around the job site with no cord attached. Once I was able to manipulate the safety and the trigger at the same time while holding it sidewise for planning off cabinet scribe it was awesome! Not near as “dirty ” as the corded version, meaning it doesn’t throw the shavings as far around the room as my old one. And fits in my old corded version plastic case as well!

Great little router. More than enough power and easy to handle. Only complaint is the hole in the base on the fixed router portion is too small to accommodate larger bits. Easy fix is to run a bit through it which I did.

I have had different routers over the years and this one rates as high on the scale as my Dewalt 611. I wanted a cordless router and since I have several other makita power tools I decided on their palm router. It’s bskanced well which makes it easier to maneuver through intricate cuts.
