The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Planer (model XPK01Z, tool only) combines the speed and capacity of a corded planer with the convenience of cordless. The result is fast and accurate stock removal, without the cord. This tool is part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, an extensive cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt lithium-ion slide-style battery that offers an exceptionally fast charge time. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls, which allows the STAR-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can be powered by any Makita 18-Volt LXT and compact lithium-ion batteries displaying the star symbol. This promotion also comes with a bonus BL1850B 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah Battery.

Really like this cordless version! It is a bit heavier then the corded version but the well worth the weight difference to have the freedom to roam around the job site with no cord attached. Once I was able to manipulate the safety and the trigger at the same time while holding it sidewise for planning off cabinet scribe it was awesome! Not near as “dirty ” as the corded version, meaning it doesn’t throw the shavings as far around the room as my old one. And fits in my old corded version plastic case as well!

Professional grade tool! I bought the ryobi cordless planer on the first go around. The ryobi had a couple things break on it and it was not very precision. I returned the ryobi and ordered the makita. It was worth the extra money! The makita is quiter, built more durable, and feels good in your hand. The makita does not come with a dust bag. But the ryobi did. After the ryobi dust bag got cut up by the blade I see why makita does not provide one. You can purchase a dust bag for the makita but I recommend using a dust collector if anything. Personally I don’t use anything on mine.
