All I have to say is, “Wow!” The Makita 18V X2 LXT Lithium-Ion (36V) Brushless Cordless 6-1/2 in. Plunge Circular Saw Kit with Guide Rail is easily the best circular saw I have ever used. I have had the pleasure of owning several different circular saws both electric and battery operated. They all have their pluses and minuses, however, this new saw that is a part of Makita’s new 18V LXT system seems to be perfect. It has a great combination of power, run time, and precision, especially with the included guide rail. So, if you are in the market for a high end circular saw, I definitely recommend the new Makita18V X2 LXT Lithium-Ion (36V) Brushless Cordless 6-1/2 in. Plunge Circular Saw Kit with Guide Rail.

The saw works very well. I get a much cleaner cut than I did with a traditional circular saw.

Very satisfied with the track saw. Have only used it a few times but it performs very well.

I purchased the saw that came with 39 in. guide rail and purchased additional 55 in guide rail. The saw is super smooth on 55 in. guide rail. But with 39 in. guide rail, the saw’s motor gets hot after 3 cuts (less than 15 in. each cut). I could feel the heat when my hand was holding handle. I really need to PUSH through the 39 in. track. I could feel quiet strong friction/resistance. I cleaned the track and the saw, it didn’t work. Then I switched back to 55 in. track, there was no heat after 10 cuts. VERY SMOOTH. I tried adjusting those knobs,I loose them all the way, the saw felt a bit better, but it swings left and right on the track. I don’t even want to try to connect two rails even if it works. I don’t want to adjust knobs in the middle of cuts between two tracks. Oh, I purchased the connector too. So what should I do, Makita?

2, 5ah batteries last about 1 hour of production style cutting. Even up to 2 hours depending on the material and pressure used to push the saw through the material. Mine has performed exceptionally well production cutting as you might do with a corded tool. I’ve done tens of thousands of repetitive cuts with this saw, running it all day for weeks on end. The saw is very accurate and the bevel cuts are equally as accurate to the bottom edge of the anti-splinter strip. The saw runs very smooth and cuts very smooth as expected from Makita tools. It comes with a 55 tooth blade and spins it 2,500 to 6,300 rpm which is adjustable with a speed dial. It feels like it keeps the speed in the cut for any given speed setting and a small green light near the battery level indicators lights up when the saw is maintaining speed under load. The available high speed, the 55 tooth blade plus the automatic speed change feature combined make for an extremely smooth feel when cutting. If you have a second pair of 5ah batteries then you will be able to have two charged before you can ever run the two installed on the saw out of power. The plunge action pivots the blade into a plunge cut on an arc from a pivot point near base at the rear of the saw. You do have to keep a little forward pressure when plunge cutting and take it slow or it will kick back. My track has a cut in it from the saw kicking back on someone. There are now about 4 inches of the splinter strip that I can’t use The saw is very light weight and easy to use. The dust collection works very well and removes almost all of the dust if the dust collector hooked up to it is decent. I’ve had ok success even with an in-expensive Ridgid shop vac. Very smooth running and relatively quiet. It has a full featured set of adjustable controls. The blade size is interchangeable with other brand’s replacement blades but Makita does use a 165mm blade as does DeWalt (I also own the cordless DeWalt track saw). Most track saws use a 160mm blade and most replacement blades are 160mm. As long as the arbor is 20mm and the blade is 165mm or less it will work well in the tool. The blade the saw comes with is has a 2.2mm kerf as do most replacement blades whether they’re Makita or any other brand including DeWalt and many Tenryu. The replacement splinter strip and friction strips for the track are easy to find and are relatively in-expensive to replace but will last around 5-10 thousand cuts and last longer when used with dust collection. They usually only need replacement from improper storage or kick-back cutting into them. The cases are great and are compatible with certain Festool cases and dust collectors with storage connections on the top. The saw is comparable with Festool tracks as well but the Makita tracks cost less and are equally well made. Overall, this saw is a professional precision tool that performs well, is also reliable, powerful and durable. I hope this review is helpful.

I couldn’t be happier with this track saw. Great quality in materials and a smooth, straight cut made my project shine. Pricey but all things considered, a great product.

I saw this tracksaw on homedepot website, but it was out. I ended up ordering it through acemetool and acemetool gave me extra 2-5ah batteries. What a deal. All together came with 4-5ah batteries, track, plung saw, 2 hard plastic boxes for 499.00 free shipping.

This is the only track saw/plunge saw I have used, but I have use corded and cordless circular saws and wormdrive saws. Although it seems like just another circular saw, it’s almost a completely different type of saw. The closest I could compare it to is using a circular saw with a guide. With careful use I would say you could get similar results, but with a track saw it’s so much easier and more consistent. For one there is no measuring for the offset from the edge of the shoe to the blade, once the track has be trimmed on it’s first use it’s place the track where you want the cut, place the saw on it and cut. The saw glides effortlessly on the track compared to a circular saw. When using a guide with a circular saw and an appropriate blade the cut quality looks the same. What I like this for is to making accurate cuts and doing it with minimal effort and fuss. Now a circular saw for me is relegated to rough cuts and framing type cutting. A track saw/plunge cut is more for trim/finish work and craft/project/furniture making stuff. The saw comes with a case for the saw and for the charger that can be stacked and locked together. They feel like brittle plastic that will crack if dropped, but nice to have a case for the saw. I have also experienced how much nicer it is to have a cordless saw, and this one has all the same benefits. Like other cordless saws I have it has a soft start and brake which i really like. But I am going to guess it is not as powerful as a corded one. But for the cuts you would use this on I don’t think it’s much of an issue, you could make multiple cuts instead of one deep cut. The overall construction of the saw is nice but does not have the rugged feel of most circular saws. Again the plastic feels lower end, but I don’t see this saw getting the same treatment as most circular saws. All the adjustment on the saw are clearly marked and easy to use. The saw only needed minor adjustment so it did not wiggle on the track. Everything else was looked to be set square out of the box.Another surprise was how quiet this was compared to all the other saws I have used corded and cordless. The shop vac was louder. Nice added bonus I was not expecting

Very great product, it cuts accurate, and great dust absorption. I thought about returning but I’m very happy that I decided to keep it after using it on a small project and it was very useful for cutting very large ply woods (4×8 feet). I also cut small panels at different degree with ease.
