The 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless 1 in. Rotary Hammer (model XRH01Z, tool only) features a Makita BL Brushless Motor Technology for up to 50% longer run time. The XRH01Z is the industry’s first 1 in. capacity rotary hammer in the 18-Volt cordless category. Its part of Makita expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

What can I say…. other than to point out that this is another quality tool from Makita. It has the power to get my jobs done and isn’t to taxing on my batteries. It’s gentle enough to drill into hollow block without desroying it, but it’s powerful enough to get into old concrete floors.

After purchasing a battery and charger, I chose the 4.0 amp battery because of quick recharging time. I put the drill to the test by drilling thru concrete to set a bracket to hold a 4 x 4 in place on a stair case. I was surprised on how easy the drill worked and did not chug down while drilling the hole; I drilled a ½ inch hole 3 inches deep. I drilled a total of 14 holes and the battery was still charged so if I needed to drill more I could have. The drill has a three way switch so you can choose the way you want to use the drill. You can drill, drill with a hammer, and hammer. The trigger is placed in a perfect position for getting a good grip on the drill. The switch that controls direction of rotation is placed above the trigger for easy reach with your thumb. The drill is not heavy or bulky and works like a top. The drill depth control rod is easy to use and is conveniently placed where it can be seen or used based on feel. The additional handle that fits right or left side adds stability to the drill while using it. It holds up to Makita’s standard of quality tools. I like using it and it does a great job. As Always Be Safe Using This Tool and Wear eye protection

The idea of a cordless rotary hammer makes us question two main aspects of the tool: power and battery life. This Makita 1″ Cordless Rotary Hammer offers a great balance between quality, convenience, power & value. This is a bare tool so I purchased the Makita Battery & Charger kit from my local Home Depot for around $150.It is well-built and feels solid during use. It is compact and lightweight and allows you to work for longer durations or when on a ladder. The convenience of cordless is priceless. The trigger feels good and allows full control of speed. I drilled several 3/16 holes effortlessly in concrete and feel that it has plenty of power for most applications, and the battery life to support that. If you’re a pro you may need extra batteries, and those aren’t cheap!
