The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Reciprocating Saw (tool only) combines cutting speed with convenience features for faster, more efficient cutting. It’s powered by the industry’s fastest charging 18-Volt lithium-ion batteries (sold separately), allowing users to remain in 1 battery platform and use the same fast-charging 18-Volt batteries on the XRJ04Z as they use across the Makita 18-Volt LXT cordless tool line-up. The XRJ04Z is equipped with efficiency features for faster cutting. The long 1-1/4 in. stroke length increases cutting efficiency, and the refined crank mechanism design minimizes blade deflection and reduces vibration. Convenience features include a large 2-finger variable speed trigger, electric brake, and tool-less blade change for faster blade installation and removal. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. The tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries. It isn’t fair to say this isn’t a good product or not recommend it because it does what it’s supposed to do: if you’re in a pinch, don’t have access to an outlet, and need to make some quick rips, it’s a good tool. However, it just doesn’t have the battery life or power for more extensive projects. After owning this tool for about 2 years, I had to cut a bunch of brush and decided to pick up the corded model. Not only do I not have to worry about battery life but the corded version has noticeably far more power. I wish I had bought the corded model when I put in a fence and had to get through a lot of old roots! So unless you don’t have access to an outlet, I’d definitely go with the corded version and a 100 ft extension cord.

Very nice, works great. You can orient the cutter in any direction or change it without using tools. Just lift up the lever on the front. Has a variable speed dial also. The on/off switch stays on without having to hold the button in the whole time.

Oscillating tools are awesome. Love that the same battery works for so many different Makita tools. The quick release for changing blades is really quick and easy to use. It’s heavier than some and lighter than others, but I like the weight. Feels strong, like it’s going to last a long time. I’m turning into a Makita fanboy.
