The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Reciprocating Saw (tool only) combines cutting speed with convenience features for faster, more efficient cutting. It’s powered by the industry’s fastest charging 18-Volt lithium-ion batteries (sold separately), allowing users to remain in 1 battery platform and use the same fast-charging 18-Volt batteries on the XRJ04Z as they use across the Makita 18-Volt LXT cordless tool line-up. The XRJ04Z is equipped with efficiency features for faster cutting. The long 1-1/4 in. stroke length increases cutting efficiency, and the refined crank mechanism design minimizes blade deflection and reduces vibration. Convenience features include a large 2-finger variable speed trigger, electric brake, and tool-less blade change for faster blade installation and removal. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. The tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries. This bundle also includes the XMT03Z 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Variable Speed Oscillating Multi-Tool, Tool-Only.

It isn’t fair to say this isn’t a good product or not recommend it because it does what it’s supposed to do: if you’re in a pinch, don’t have access to an outlet, and need to make some quick rips, it’s a good tool. However, it just doesn’t have the battery life or power for more extensive projects. After owning this tool for about 2 years, I had to cut a bunch of brush and decided to pick up the corded model. Not only do I not have to worry about battery life but the corded version has noticeably far more power. I wish I had bought the corded model when I put in a fence and had to get through a lot of old roots! So unless you don’t have access to an outlet, I’d definitely go with the corded version and a 100 ft extension cord.

Love this tool. It was a no charge option during the Black Friday specials. Very easy to use, works like a champ. A tad bit on the heavy side but I’m good with that.

Great tool. Does heat up a little with prolonged use. Battery life is also less than what I expected.
Eladio Cummerata (verified owner) –

Very nice, works great. You can orient the cutter in any direction or change it without using tools. Just lift up the lever on the front. Has a variable speed dial also. The on/off switch stays on without having to hold the button in the whole time.

The tool does what it is made for but the only thing I did not like is its to heavy and it does not have a variable speed on it but i do like the quick release to change the blade.

Fixed blade positions (up or down).Power and battery life seem appropriate for the work being done.

Oscillating tools are awesome. Love that the same battery works for so many different Makita tools. The quick release for changing blades is really quick and easy to use. It’s heavier than some and lighter than others, but I like the weight. Feels strong, like it’s going to last a long time. I’m turning into a Makita fanboy.

Cuts nicely most of the time; the exception being when the temperature is less than 32°

This thing is awesome! Use it almost daily doing full home remodels and residential builds and this things doesn’t skip a beat!

Wow I love this tool! I was surprised how well it actually cut. And you can get into spots that are tough with other saws. I’m pretty sure I’ve only scratched the surface of the ways I can use it.

It works great but it is very heavy

Very slow speed like blade change thou. Will stick with electric version for heavy cutting. Ggood for small cuts.
