The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Reciprocating Saw (tool only) combines cutting speed with convenience features for faster, more efficient cutting. It’s powered by the industry’s fastest charging 18-Volt lithium-ion batteries (sold separately), allowing users to remain in 1 battery platform and use the same fast-charging 18-Volt batteries on the XRJ04Z as they use across the Makita 18-Volt LXT cordless tool line-up. The XRJ04Z is equipped with efficiency features for faster cutting. The long 1-1/4 in. stroke length increases cutting efficiency, and the refined crank mechanism design minimizes blade deflection and reduces vibration. Convenience features include a large 2-finger variable speed trigger, electric brake, and tool-less blade change for faster blade installation and removal. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. The tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries. This thing is absolutely amazing. I bought it to cut the hole in my cabinet for an over the range microwave hood vent. At first I was trying to do it with a jigsaw but I couldn’t get close enough to the wall (needed to be flush). I also couldn’t get a sawzall up in the cabinet but that wouldn’t probably have worked any way. I saw this thing in a YouTube video and immediately went out and bought it. It did not let me down! This is the perfect saw for those weird cuts that you can’t make with a jigsaw or a sawzall. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time. Highly recommended.

This is one of those tools that I long looked at but couldn’t quite figure out how I would use it (or justify its purchase). Since have purchased it, it has become essential! Granted, I am in the middle of a home remodel, but I can’t begin to tell you how many times I puzzled over how to cut something (piece of trim would in an awkward position, cut a nail, etc), only to realize I have my multi-tool! This thing is solid in the hand (meaning heavy and robust feeling) and more importantly, powerful. Uses tons of blades and I love the rapid release mechanism and multiple blade speeds. Also comes with some adapters for blades that dont fit the tool (although I havent run across any that dont). Easy to use, not overly large, but clearly well made. I love it and wish I had one long ago. I use it to cut wall board, cut back installed trim (during demo) flush cut wood corners, clean grout lines of recently laid tile…fix mistakes, the list goes on. Next to my cordless drill, this is my other essential tool. I picked the Makita because I have several other Makita tools (so have the battery system), but in general I am loyal to Makita – they have always done well for/by me. I’m not a professional, just a DIY who enjoys remodeling and doing projects around the home.
