It has an electronically-controlled BL Brushless motor that matches torque and RPM to the application and is powered by the industry’s fastest charging 18-Volt lithium-ion batteries. With Makita, users can remain in one battery platform, using the same fast-charging 18-Volt batteries on the XRJ05T as they use across the Makita 18-Volt LXT cordless tool line-up. The XRJ05T is equipped with efficiency features for faster cutting. The long 1-1/4 in. stroke length increases cutting efficiency and the refined crank mechanism design minimizes blade deflection and reduces vibration. Convenience features include an LED light to illuminate the line of cut, a retractable tool hook and “tool-less” blade change for faster blade installation and removal. This is a strong recipro saw that runs very smoothly cutting through wood effortlessly. It may be a little on the heavy side, and an orbital adjustment would be nice, if compared to the Rigid 18v cordless, but I decided I needed to have tools using the same battery as my other Makita items. Would highly recommend.

Great saw. Plenty of power, good balance, comfortable to use. Had it about a month, most recent use was on a demo project to cut through headers, remove nail-embedded studs, cut through several aluminum window frames, worked great for everything.

Used this for heavy demolition, cutting through 6×6 pressure treated wood, pruning trees, and cutting through metal pipes with no issues. It’s light, very smooth motor, and very little vibration. Switching out blades is super easy and I really like the rafter hook which stays in place securely when folded down and doesn’t get in the way. I never had a cordless reciprocating saw so I can’t compare battery life to other brands, but other than the heavy demo where it was worked VERY hard for a solid 30 minutes, my 4Ah batter never ran dry. I should note that the battery had 3 out of 4 bars on when I began the heavy demo.

I’ve wanted a cordless Reciprocating saw for a while now….. I was going to buy the rigid saw but… this one was on sale and in stock…and I needed a saw for a project that included replacing 10 doors… this saw flat rocks! I did all 10 doors on one battery… and still have 80% charge on the battery!!! It uses the same battery as my miter saw that I love so it just made sense to give this saw a try… if you’re already using makita batteries… it just makes sense… get one … you’ll love it!
