Landscapers are demanding more cordless alternatives to gas-powered outdoor power equipment. Makita is meeting demand with an expanding line-up of cordless OPE, including the 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless String Trimmer (model XRU11M1). With zero emissions, lower noise, and considerably less maintenance, the 18V cordless string trimmer is a welcome solution for landscapers. It features an efficient Makita BL brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The kit includes an efficient Rapid Optimum Charger and an 18V LXT 4.0Ah battery which reaches a full charge in only 40 minutes – the fastest charge-time in the category – for less downtime and increased productivity. The efficient brushless motor delivers up to 6,000 RPM for faster cutting. The XRU11Z is equipped with Automatic Torque Drive Technology, which automatically shifts from 4,000-6,000 RPM depending on the density of the application. There are three speed options (4,000/5,000/6,000 RPM), allowing users to match the speed to the application. Additional features include a full 11-3/4 In. cutting swath, an easy-loading bump-and-feed trimmer head, and reverse rotation that allows users to quickly clear the head of entangled grass and weeds. The XRU11Z accepts industry standard M8x1.25 LH spindles. The XRU11M1 features Makita Extreme Protection Technology (XPT).

The trimmer is very easy to handle due to its light weight and works great. Even when trimming heavy weeds the battery life is excellent.

I would consider this cordless trimmer to be outstanding if it were fitted with a simple spool for the string. As it is, the trimmer head must be replaced in order to replace the spool. Since the “bump” feed bulge on the head is part of the spool, it will no doubt wear out quickly and require replacement of the spool. Makita doesn’t sell the spool separately from the entire head. So to have a spare spool, the owner must buy a complete head assembly. This precludes having spare spools pre-wound with string on hand. However, the trimmer is well made, has excellent balance and is easy to use. It has plenty of power at both high and low speeds to perform most trimming tasks. I found that there was plenty of charge in the battery to take care of my 0.6 acre yard.

Rare five star rating. 45 minutes run time on one 4hr battery could be better. Trimming tall or wet grass slows it down. Could use a little more power. Those are small gripes when you see how easy it is to reload with string. The number one best thing about this trimmer is it’s incredibly light weight. I can carry it with ease. Makes trimming so much easier than using a heavy gas trimmer.

unit is light and performs as advertised, the trimmer runs at least a half hour or more on one charge. The unit operates with no vibration. (I own a large gas trimmer that puts my hands to sleep after a short period) I also own a Mikita 18 volt drill and impact driver that the battery will interchange with and am extremely happy with the Makita line.

Quality product. Price of batteries is absolutely ludicrous.

So far great. Could stand a little more power and battery life but reasonable for a single battery that can recharge in thirty minutes.

This is a new purchase have not used it outside yet assembly was very easy Mikita batteries are top notch . Only Negative i see is onboard tool storage does not work very well. Will rate string trimmer when season begins . For quality of Cutting and longevity of tool.

I was concerned with the power of an 18V but it does a pretty good job. Battery life is good. Good value considering it comes with a battery.

Needed a new string trimmer. Decided to break away from gas run. Not disappointed. This light weight (for older people and also for smaller women such as myself) still provides good power to get trimming done. I have a 1 acre “country” yard with more than 30 mature tree trunks to trim around as well as 300 feet of kennel fencing, a mailbox by the road and flower garden borders. The first time I ran the trimmer the battery ran out pretty fast. However after charging it a second time, it ran for one hour and still had power to keep going only problem – I got tired. Note that on that battery run, I trimmed around all the tree trunks, the fencing on both sides and several flower beds. It never got tangled with the tough tall weeds and grasses. I think it actully worked better than my old small gas string trimmer as far as power. It trimmed thick tall grasses, large weeds and even some tough woody ash and black locust tree suckers about 1/4″ in diameter. I could not be happier to have purchased this light weight battery run trimmer. Also I like that it is relatively quiet for a power tool and the speed selection is good although I ran it on automatic and it adjusted the speed according to what it was trimming at the time. Nice feature! It was easy to assemble too. I think if you take good care of it it should last quite some time even though it is light weight.

Long history of using quality gas powered string trimmers. Recently moved and my responsibility for yard maintenance shrunk from multi-acre property to a suburban home lawn. Not only is it the right tool for the job but it is so convenient. Can do my whole property with a single 4ah battery. The gas powered ones are so heavy and run so hot. The Makita cordless is easy to maintain. The obvious lack of mixing oil and feul is a big plus with the bonus of i can throw it in the back of my car and there’s no gasoline smell. if you need a ton of power for clearing overgrown fields, this would not be the tool. For lawn maintenance and upkeep. Highly reccomend. Possibly not best unbaised review due to zero experince with electric or battery operated trimmers.
