The string trimmer is ideal for precision trimming and edging. It features an efficient Makita BL Brushless Motor for longer run time, increased power and speed and longer tool life. The kit includes an efficient charger and an 18-Volt LXT 4.0 Ah battery which reaches a full charge in only 40-minutes the fastest charge-time in the category for less downtime and increased productivity. The efficient brushless motor delivers up to 6,000 RPM for faster cutting. The XRU12SM1 is equipped with Automatic Torque Drive Technology, which automatically shifts from 4,000-6,000 RPM depending on the density of the application. There are 3-speed options (4,000/5,000/6,000 RPM), allowing users to match the speed to the application. The easy-loading bump-and-feed trimmer head is compatible with 0.08 in. or 0.095 in. line and offers reverse rotation allowing users to quickly clear the head of entangled grass and weeds. The XRU12SM1 features Makita Extreme Protection Technology (XPT). XPT is a protective seal inside the tool and is engineered for improved operation in harsh conditions by channeling water and dust from key internal components. This product is excellent! It’s a Makita tool. What more can you ask for? Not much to assemble, but simple. I’ve only had it for a little over a month. So far, it’s worth the cost. Also the batteries are compatible with all Makita tools. I have a couple of drills (compact). Great product!

It is very difficult to angle correctly to get the “best” results. Appears to have been designed to be used by a tall or maybe average sized (man) and not someone short. I am a 5′ woman and have to hold it way down rather than use the handle and so don’t think it cuts as neatly as I was expecting. Expensive and not worth the money for me. Disappointed.

Great product to add to my Makita 18v powertrain! Powerful and ideal for average weedeater work. ~45 min run time on 4 amp battery. Bought for my wife who cant handle my Stihl KM56. However, i have put more hours on this Makita around my place than she has since i bought it! No drawbacks to note and that’s saying alot from me and my first battery powered lawn product!

Product works as expected! One battery lasts long enough to do my whole yard. Consider your height when purchasing this model. I am 5’ 10” and wish I had purchased the one with the curved shaft. It would probably be more comfortable to use.

18v makita string trimmer, very happy with this product. For normal weed eating works great quite and light. Mowed down some weeds that where 3′ tall with some thick stems, took a little to cut the thick stems but it did it. Battery stayed charged through both times I used it.Would recommend this product.

This electric trimmer is really good. It’s light, has three speeds, and doesn’t leave you smelling like gas, just like freshly cut grass, so a step up. The charger is fine (it doesn’t seem to be a rapid charger, but it manages). I did have an issue with the end falling off while I was using it, but I’m thinking it just didn’t have it tightened enough. Will update review if that becomes a recurring problem.
