The string trimmer is ideal for precision trimming and edging. It features an efficient Makita BL Brushless Motor for longer run time, increased power and speed and longer tool life. The kit includes an efficient charger and an 18-Volt LXT 4.0 Ah battery which reaches a full charge in only 40-minutes the fastest charge-time in the category for less downtime and increased productivity. The efficient brushless motor delivers up to 6,000 RPM for faster cutting. The XRU12SM1 is equipped with Automatic Torque Drive Technology, which automatically shifts from 4,000-6,000 RPM depending on the density of the application. There are 3-speed options (4,000/5,000/6,000 RPM), allowing users to match the speed to the application. The easy-loading bump-and-feed trimmer head is compatible with 0.08 in. or 0.095 in. line and offers reverse rotation allowing users to quickly clear the head of entangled grass and weeds. The XRU12SM1 features Makita Extreme Protection Technology (XPT). XPT is a protective seal inside the tool and is engineered for improved operation in harsh conditions by channeling water and dust from key internal components. Doesn’t come with instructions on how to put it together. I had to find a youtube on it. The youtube guy was okay except that the parts that were questionable he glossed over. Got it eventully. Super easy to maneuver. Worked great on the weeds and edges. I spent close to an hour with it and didn’t run out of battery. It mentioned in the paper work that its best to run the battery all the way down and then charge it. It’s not that loud and it has 3 speeds. It also comes with a strap and safety glasses. Definitly wear the safety glasses. The only thing that happened unexpectedly was that the spool fell off. I screwed it back on. I put it away after that because it got late on me. I read on the youtube comments that someone kept having that happen. Oh, and the line seemed to be the same length as when I started. I’m glad I took a chance on it.

It is very difficult to angle correctly to get the “best” results. Appears to have been designed to be used by a tall or maybe average sized (man) and not someone short. I am a 5′ woman and have to hold it way down rather than use the handle and so don’t think it cuts as neatly as I was expecting. Expensive and not worth the money for me. Disappointed.
