Makita offers 4 optimum 5-7/8 in. blade options for use with the XSC02T: 32T carbide tipped for metal and general purpose; 52T for thin metal; 52T for aluminum; and 60T for stainless steel (all sold separately). For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Bought this saw after a neighbor loaned me his. I’m putting up steel siding, and this has been invaluable. Wear hearing protection! Flexibility in usability is a big plus.

Even though it does say (tool only) in the title, to be clear this is only the saw. There is no battery or charger that comes with this. This is not a fault of the product or manufacturer, just an additional warning. As for the saw itself, this saw is excellent! It cuts through most metals with ease, depending on the size and density. It does leave some burs like any saw, but they are easily sanded down. The saw also comes packaged with a 5 7/8″ blade to get you started. It has very good weight distribution and is easy to hold and re-position. If you are a fan of Makita and have a good size collection already, this is a tool you cannot go wrong with

The Makita circular metal saw works great for anything up to 10 gauge sheet metal, including expanded metal. However, anything heavier tends to burn the blade and doesn’t cut well unless you make passes. All cuts do leave burs that are easily smoothed off with a paddle wheel on a 4 1/2″ grinder. The blade being on the opposite side of a regular circular saw makes it a little more difficult to check your cut, especially if you are very used to using your regular circular saw. But overall, a great tool with a massive range of uses to add to your Makita set. This way you can keep a wood blade on your regular saw and a metal blade on this one. This saw does have a slower speed that the regular circular saw as well, and is a little smaller.

Quite the little kick-butt saw.Took it out of the box, connected a 4ah battery to it and she chomped away through commercial store galvanized steel skin cooler box refrigeration panels with steel cam locks. She didn’t miss a beat. Great investment!Makes a little noise so wear hearing protection please!Makita IS thee best!
