The 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Drywall Screwdriver (model XSF03R) breaks new ground for drywall contractors. It’s powered by a Makita brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed and longer tool life. With the exclusive Push Drive Technology, the 18-Volt Drywall Screwdriver can be set on lock-on mode so the motor starts only when the fastener is engaged. This gives contractors a quieter work environment and also saves on battery power. It’s built for added durability with Extreme Protection Technology (XPT), which is engineered for improved dust and water resistance for operation in harsh job site conditions. It is ideal for hanging sheetrock, metal framing, installing subfloors, backer board and decking applications. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Convenient, light, easy to use keeping in balance with the compact drills. Problem is that one of two batteries in my drill/driver kit failed after a session of moderate use and maybe one year old. Warranty? Procedure dictated to send back to Makita Services the complete drill and impact driver kit to warranty the one battery. Not happening. Replacement 2.0A battery cost $89.95 + tax. Pretty absurd when the whole kit, 2 drills, 2 batteries and charger cost $200. There has to be a better way.

Nice little battery perfect for the compact drills and impacts. Light weight. Lasts along time for only 2.0ah. I wouldn’t use it in saws or anything that draws a lot of power but perfect for impacts and drills. Just like all my other Makita tools it’s very high quality and works great!

As a professional drywall installer I look for tools that are going to stand up to the abuse that my day produces. Long hours, thousands of screws and the occasional dropped tool. I also look for tools that are easy to set up, especially when I have new hires that have never used them. The Makita LXT Drywall screw gun is one of those tools. I have put it through every scenario of abuse that I can and it has stood up to it. Battery time with the 3.0ah battery is a little short compared to my old DEWALT but still hundreds of screws on a single battery. I would suggest using the pressure sensitive auto-start to preserve battery life and purchase a set of higher ah batteries. But all in all it is a great tool. Bit change is simple, depth adjustment can be a little tricky in the beginning but is still easy to use. All functions of the always on (motor running constantly) as well as auto start are a snap to use. I would highly recommend it to anyone in search of a drywall screw gun.
