For added convenience, the batteries feature an on-board LED charge level indicator. The XSH03T features Extreme Protection Technology (XPT), engineered for increased dust and water resistance for operation in harsh job site conditions. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. What can I say? I’ve been using Makita cordless tools for may years and this 6 1/2 inch circular saw is very impressive: Well made, well balanced and easy to use with remarkably good power.

Saw (6.5″ cordless) is quite light even with 5Ah battery. Magnesium base is even lighter than aluminum, blade guard is magnesium as well, not plastic like some other models. Supplied 24 T carbide Blade is excellent, makes clean smooth cuts even in in wet deck lumber. Cutting visibility is very good, LED light is an added bonus. Saw glides nicely along any cutting guide, I used a 10ft 3/4″ board for one of my deck wood (1.5″) cuts and it easily cleared the motor housing. This was a problem with my old compact Skil Saw. So far saw has not stalled or hung up once. Battery life seems to be good, will need more time to properly test. An interesting feature are the two edge guide slots, one in front and one in back this allows the use of an optional edge guide. Some minor complaints: For the relatively high price it should include the edge guide, it’s optional and hard to find. With this blade left design saw dust is ejected towards the operator when holding the saw in the right hand. The dust is directed slightly backwards down towards the ground but never the less my legs were covered with saw dust! In fairness an optional vacuum hose attachment is available. Saw came as a kit : Saw, (2) 5 Ah batteries, charger and very nice bag. Overall great compact saw, I choose this product after looking at 15 other products. High build quality. This saw was not in stock at Home Depot but I ordered on Tues and received it on Wed, excellent. No shipping charge!!

Loving this saw. I was a little reluctant to buy a cordless because the last cordless saw I used was my dads older craftsman 19.2 volt and it was “okay”.This saw cuts like crazy. So far I’ve cut MDF and plywood and it cuts like nothing through those. We are remodeling our kitchen and we are doing butcherblock counters. I used this saw to cut many of the 1-1/2″ birch pieces. It did not fly through them, but it did cut pretty easy. Just had to take my time. Actually cut the counter better than my Ridgid table saw. Was surprising.Also, the led light is such a fantastic feature. It’s so nice to have a light and it’s pretty bright, right on the cut.One of the other reason I bought a new saw was for dust collection. My old corded Makita circular, of course has no dust collection, so this was a welcome feature. It actually works pretty good.My only two slight negatives are, for one it is not perfectly 90 degree’s, it’s a tiny bit off. Maybe I’ll figure a way to get it straight. Other criticism is the duct collection port does not come with the saw. Doesn’t make sense. I had to purchase that elsewhere.Before I bought this, I was looking at the makita compact saw, but after watching some review video’s and looking over the compact, this one is definitely built much, much better, and it’s less expensive.Very happy with the saw. My old corded saw is now collecting dust. This one does everything I need and more.
