Makita created a new class in cordless with 18-Volt LXT Sub-Compact tools. Makita Sub-Compact gives users 12-Volt handling with 18-Volt performance and compatibility with the worlds largest 18-Volt cordless tool system. The XSH04ZB is engineered for cutting and ripping applications and is ideal for any contractor seeking a more compact cutting solution for framing, roofing, formwork and more. The Sub-Compact 6-1/2 in. Circular Saw has a compact and ergonomic design at only 10-5/8 in. and 6.4 lbs. (with 18-Volt LXT Compact 2.0Ah battery, battery and charger sold separately). Quick Review: Great saw performance wise, this lost a star from me due to a few features that I would have modified, but they do not take away from the great performance of the saw. I used this with 2x’s, cutting 2×8 lumber and it cut right through them with no problems. The Problem:I was looking for a lighter saw to cut my 2x’s, it was down to this model and an M12 model. I ended up choosing this for one main reason( the dust port). Had the M12 had a dust port, even though it has a slower RPM I would have picked it up because I am heavily invested in the M12 line. As you get older you want to take better care of yourself and who wants to be covered in saw dust and breathing it in. I did not regret my decision, the dust port worked well with this. I used an attachment to connect it to my BacPacVac and I was able to collect just about all of the dust that comes with it. Performance:This is a blade right saw. As a righty the main benefit of the blade right saws is that even though your view is obstructed by the saw, the dust blows away from you which is good(as long as you are on the left side of the saw). I used this to cut some 2×8’s that I am using for a stand and it cut with no issues. This saw ripped right through them. I did not have to struggle with it to cut all the way through, it handled the work pieces just fine. This saw is nice and light, I used it with a 5.0ah battery . The LEDs worked with the light the area. I do not think this has a dedicated dust blower, but the rate at which the blade spins allowed enough air to blow by to clear the lines I made of dust and debris. There is a notch on the rail of the saw that I initially thought was for when the blade is at 90degrees, the notch is for 45 degree bevels. There is an L shaped area where it says 0, that is what you would follow for straight cutsThe saw spins in a counter clockwise direction, just take note of the when you insert the blade, as you want the teeth facing up. My only real complaint with the saw is that spindle lock was in an awkward position for me , so in order to change the blade I had to place it down as oppose to just changing it holding it up. I have Makita’s tracksaw and the measurements for the depth guide on the track saw used the metrics system. I am glad that these measurements are in the imperial system since this saw is sold in the US. It is nice that the markings are on the blade guard but with the markings being black, on a black surface were difficult to see at times I would have preferred if they used a different color to identify each marking. Cons:Markings on blade guard are hard to see.The Spindle lock is at a bad place, for me, giving me more work to change the blade

Light weight and I like that there is no cord to keep out of the way. It’s great for small jobs around the house. A laser light would make this an awesome saw.
