Makita is a pioneer in brushless motor engineering, battery technology, and miter saw innovation and has combined this expertise in the 18-Volt X2 LXT (36-Volt) Lithium-Ion Brushless 12 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw (tool-only, batteries and charger sold separately). It’s powered by two 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries for 36-Volt power and performance, but without leaving the 18-Volt LXT platform. X2 LXT technology delivers increased power, speed, and run time, without the hassles of a cord. Get up to 175 cuts per charge in 2 in. x 12 in. SPF lumber with two 5.0 Ah batteries (sold separately). The efficient BL Brushless Motor runs cooler and more efficiently for longer tool life and delivers up to 4,400 RPM for fast and smoother cutting. The XSL08Z also features Automatic Speed Change technology to adjust cutting speed and torque under load for optimum performance. For improved efficiency, its equipped with Auto-Start Wireless System technology. AWS utilizes Bluetooth technology for wireless communication between the tool and dust extractor (sold separately). When the trigger of the AWS-equipped XSL08Z is engaged, the AWS-equipped dust extractor powers-up.

This is a well thought-out and well-built tool. I have had many miter saws but this one is the best. Impressed with the power and longevity of the Makita 36 volt tools.

Beautiful tool. Too early to comment on the reliability as yet but the smooth precision is exactly what I was looking for and why Makita is my platform of choice. Controls are up-front and the miter can be set directly against a wall. Great dust clearing. The miter and bevel were well-calibrated out of the box, but one should check before using. In my case, even while the bevel stop was perfectly calibrated, the saw had been jolted off center, most likely due to shipping. Cutting is smooth and powerful, but it IS a large saw and cutting small pieces can require extra finesse. It’s 70lbs and optimized for a dedicated, stationary shop setup. Someone who needs to move their miter frequently and can forego the cut capacity should consider the 7.5” slider which weighs half as much. For most uses, honestly, that 7.5” slider provides more cut capacity than most projects require. I only very rarely need the full 12” capacity myself but it does come up otherwise I would have gone for the 10” myself. In fact I actually just purchased a second, small miter saw (Makita’s 6.5”, which HD as of this writing has halted carrying) specifically for cutting small plastic pieces as it’s such a common need in so many of my projects.

I’ve had it working just under a month now and, out of the box, with the stock 60 tooth TK blade, this sliding-compound miter saw was set-up accurately and made surprisingly smooth (Forrest blade quality) cuts. – Dust-collection was also surprisingly good, especially for a SCMS – there is saw dust, but not near what I expected. – It cuts through most woods as well as a corded saw, though I haven’t yet tested it on 12/4 hardwood.- The laser took a bit of getting use to – mostly because I’ve never used one before – it was aligned accurately at the left-edge of the saw blade.- The Bluetooth dust collection switch should prove useful once I complete that part of my system. One thing I really like is the saw can be quickly locked in both the up or down position This turns out to be an excellent safety feature and helps during blade changes.About the only real negative things have been: I would prefer the brake worked a little quicker; and how the shroud swings away during blade changes – it’s a bit awkward. I hope not to change blades that often, but only time will tell.Overall, it does what I want it to do very well. I plan to adapt the Rigid stand it’s mounted to so I can mount the batteries close by when not in use – kinda like unplugging a corded tool when not in use or being transported.
