The Makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 5-3/8 in. Trim Circular Saw combines cordless cutting power with less weight in a compact size. The XSS03Z (tool only) has a Makita built high torque motor and a 2 in. maximum cutting capacity, making it ideal for woodworkers and finish carpenters. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style battery. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. The good: it’s very light and being left handed I can see the blade. The bad: No one stocks 5 3/8” blades with a 5/8” arbor. I have yet to find a nice finishing blade anywhere. I’m going to try a 5 1/2” blade and hope it doesn’t destroy the plastic shield or clog the exhaust port. Do not buy this saw unless you’re ok with a 16t blade and ordering online!

I have only used this tool a couple of times, so limited experience. The only confusing thing is, if the trigger is released during a cut, the brake is activated and the blade stops, to continue cutting the safety release has to be pressed which is a bit cumbersome with one hand.It is makes a nice cut and quiet, no power cord dragging is a real plus.
