The 18V LXT Router has an efficient Makita BL Brushless Motor for up to 50% longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. It is compatible with Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries (sold separately).The XTR01Z is engineered for a full range of cabinetry and woodworking applications. It has a variable speed control dial (10,000 – 30,000) RPM) to match the speed to the application, with electronic speed control to maintain constant speed under load and soft start feature for smoother start-ups and better accuracy. Got this to replace my corded trimmer that burned up. I was shocked at the quality of the build. Very solid but not heavy. Even with the battery on top it is still well balanced. Bit change is easy. Depth adjustment is smooth and stays. Easily the best small router I have ever used. Only weird thing is the on off button placement is not where my fingers would naturally go, but getting used to it.

First got the barrel handle brushless model but it had no trigger and was awkward starting and stopping so returned it and got this one. Both have the same brushless motor specs and this one is easier to control and lots of power. I also have the previous brushed model and the brushless is stronger. Comes with a nice selection of Makita blades. Unfortunately this item does not seem to be stocked in stores so had to order it. Took a week to get from Georgia to Palatka, Florida for pickup which seems on the slow side these days.

Smooth and super strong for compact router. One recommendation for buyers is the base plate is very small and can slip off certain templates,,,, not a fault of product, but may want to also buy a larger base plate – I ran into this with door hinge plates.

Overall excellent tool. I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could as it’s not perfect, but I’ll round up. It handles very well and has good run time. My only gripe is that I find the automatic soft start up to be mildly annoying… Though I don’t think it really affects performance, I’d rather have fine control using the trigger.
