The Makita 18-Volt X2 LXT (36-Volt) Brushless 14 in. Cut-Off Saw is a cordless metal-cutting solution ideal for light Gauge metals including stud and strut, pipe, all thread, conduit, tubing, rebar and more. The BL Brushless Motor eliminates carbon brushes so it runs cooler and more efficiently for longer life. The Saw is powered by2 18-Volt LXT batteries for maximum cordless performance and delivers 3,800 RPM for the most demanding metal cutting applications. It will cut up to 5 in. round and 4 in. x 7-5/8 in. rectangular tubing. It also features a tool-less fence and vise controls for increased productivity and a large spark guard engineered to capture and deflect debris away from the surrounding area. Additional features include an electric break, a large ergonomic handle and2-stage lock-off power button. The kit comes complete with 14 in. Cut-Off saw (XWL01Z), two 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion 5.0 Ah Batteries (BL1850B), an 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Dual Port Charger (DC18RD) and 14 in. x 1 in. x 3/32 in. Abrasive Cut-Off Wheel (B-64705). Its part of Makitas expanding 18-Volt Lithium-Ion system, the worlds largest cordless tool system powered by 18-Volt Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18-Volt Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. for improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls.

This chop saw was very easy to set up and use. Batteries charged quickly, and performed flawlessly. The vice clamp shaft has a flip thread catcher so that one can easily slide the jaw back and forth to fit whateve size material you are using, and will also clamp at angles if necessary. The shield for the metal splatter keeps it all at the saw for easy clean up, and instead of throwing hot metal or carbide and starting a possible fire it keeps it close at hand. Finally a great jobsite tool, battery operated, brushless, easy to setup and use. Where have these things been all my life. Great Quality and feel to the tool.

This is a double-battery operated 14” cutoff saw, operating at 36 volts. The speed is impressive at 3800 RPM, the same as 120 volt corded models. In use, it seems to have only slightly less power than a regular 120 volt corded model, and taking only slightly longer to make a cut through steel pipe. Cutting through other materials like PVC seem to be identical. I also have a corded Makita cutoff saw, dating from the mid 1980’s, and while it is still going strong, there are many applications where being able to go cordless is a definite benefit. That saw at 35 years old is a testament to Makita’s motors and tool design.Plumbers and electricians use these saws routinely for cutting PVC and metal pipe and conduit, and often they are doing work before permanent power is on site, so this would be a real time saver. This saw has the capacity to easily cut 4 inch PVC pipe. Cutting rebar, unistruit, and steel studs would also be typical uses. Keep in mind that there is a maximum thickness of blade that can be used of 1/8 inch. This is the thickness of most abrasive blades, however thicker blades are available. Thicker blades will last longer, but take more power to make a cut.Batteries seem to charge quickly in the fan-cooled charger, historically they have lasted a long time, and I expect these to as well, as replacement is fairly expensive. The charger also has a USB port for charging devices like phones and computers. This seems to be a well designed and constructed saw, and judging by my experience with other Makita tools, and the operation of this saw, I expect it to operate well for many years.
