Makita 18-Volt Lithium-ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18-Volt LXT and Compact Lithium-ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Works great. Definitely worth the price. Never will use a wrench to take off my lug nuts again this tool saves so much time.

This is a monster impact wrench. So much torque, hard to believe it’s a cordless tool.

I would give it 5 stars, but it is NOT “made in Japan” as the picture and descriptions elsewhere indicate. Apparently now (5/31/2019) the tool says “assembled in USA” (not even made in USA which implies they took parts made in other countries (China?!?) and just assembled it in the US). Still, not a bad tool, and in fairness, I couldn’t tell any quality difference between this one and a made in Japan one I bought locally at a tool store. Only two outside visible differences: 1. the Japan made label is not glossy while the assembled in USA label is very glossy (like the cheaper Makita stuff in the Home Depot store, boo)2. the rubber collar on the US version is made from a slightly different mold and has a different part number. It is still probably TPE, but I can’t remove it to see. See pic below.3. slight difference in the casted head; seems on the Japan version they did a better job smoothing the seam. With some slight outside differences, I’d rather keep the Japan version as it’s the one I’ve seen measured on Youtube, and I know it is the best 1/2″ impact money can buy. I have no doubt the newer assembled in USA version will perform as well.Returning the tool though as it is a lot of money to not be made in Japan as was shown in the image. Sorry, but I want it to match my made in Japan XDT012. Don’t care for the glossy label either.

Manufacturer rating is around 750ftlbs but independant reviewers have measured this thing to over 1000! That’s just on Makita’s relatively compact 5-6Ah batteries! Buyers be aware just how much power this is. This thing can easily bust nut heads and ruin threads. You will notice it deforming the metal on impact sockets and the heads of lag bolts etc that you won’t see with intermediate-power impact wrenches. This tool is generously beyond what you need for day-to-day stuff like changing standard car or truck tires in your home garage. (If that’s all you need and like Makita, I would say go for their slick little XWT11Z. Like this model independant reviewers have measured it outputing well beyond the manufacturer rating, to over 300ftlbs in its.) Disclaimers aside this is a burly impact wrench that’s built to last a very long time, it’s mechanics are smooth…it even utilizes a rubber suspension to protect the batteries from all the vibrations this thing generates during use! This kind of power is a great insurance policy if you expect to be breaking off huge, rusted bolts or driving big long lag screws with any regularity. It is heavy. Not enough for me to be bothered given my relatively occasional need to use it, but if for some reason you find yourself needing to hold this for extended hours every day you will probably notice. That and the fact that it’s power is so high it can easily destroy things are the only potential drawbacks I can think of.
