Don’t throw away your air hose yet.I’m not at all happy with the performance of this 1/2″ Makita impact driver. The Home Depot website says it has up to 155 ft/lbs of torque but even at the max torque setting and a freshly charged battery it can’t loosen the lug nuts on my car. The lug nuts just installed and only torqued to the factory spec 75 ft/lbs. Really, really disappointing and with a name like Makita and a 155 ft/lbs rating I fully expected it to be able to at least budge them a little bit. Me thinks Makita over-rated this tool by a wide margin. In this application, it would only be good enough to reinstall the lug nuts before finally torqueing them.Aside from the weak power it makes, it looks really nice dressed in all black and feels great in your hand. The belt clip works nice. The driver is light enough that it doesn’t pull your pants down if you hang it off your belt. The driver’s body is super compact so while it may not have enough power to do wheel removals it’s great for getting into tight spots and doesn’t require an air hose. Of the dozen or so drills and drivers I own with built in LED work lights, this one is by far the brightest.Long story short, with the low torque this driver makes it might as well be a 3/8″ square drive and if I had the option I’d probably go with a compact hex impact for greater compatibility.

This cordless compact brushless 1/2 inch square drive impact wrench is one great little tool! It is small but very powerful, it takes 1/2 inch square drive. The Fastenings capacity is standard bolt 5/16 to 5/8 in high tensile bolt 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. Hard impact mode is 0 to 3600 rpm per minute, soft impact mode is 0 to 2000 rpm per minute. This tool is very easy to use, feels great in the hand, very comfortable and can reach into small places. Assemble furniture in the soft mode and hard mode for working on steel frames. This tool is built really well and I’m sure will last a long time. It is very light weight, weighing 2.7 pounds to 3.4 depending on which battery you use.

Wow, this 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Sub-Compact Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Square Drive Impact Wrench (Tool-Only) is super small, but plenty powerful. I didn’t expect it to be so small and light, but I am very glad it is. It is powerful enough to remove lugs on my wheels, so I will keep it in my trunk for the inevitable flat tire. I also got a 1/2″ square drive to 1/4″ hex adapter so I can use it like a drill/driver.
