Works great. Until everything, electronics, key input, fails. And it did it twice. Matias CS was good about replacing the first one that failed after 4 months, but when the second one failed two months later I gave up, chucked it in the recycle bin, and dug out my old Mac keyboard. Avoid.

They are so incredibly close with this keyboard. If it weren’t for the most important part, the keys. Quite often pressing a key doesn’t really press or activate that key. You will often have to press that key many times. Or it swings the complete opposite way with other keys. For instance, it will double or triple press a key. Such as writing the word, Smart. I would press just about any letter in that word and it will double-tap that letter. Cons: 1. What I mentioned above. (Sighs) 2. Key travel is wonky. If they were to invest into the mechanism under the keys, they would produce a keyboard that is exactly what any demanding or creative could want. 3. 1 USB port out. This is very good to attach a mouse or flash drive to. I wish they had two. It would beef this keyboard up. 4. Cap Locks key has a small circle to identify if it’s on or off. I would love to see them make this a line that spans tastefully the height of the key. As it is now, it’s very difficult to see in bright light. It’s so small, it’s difficult to see in low light, at night with all other lights turned off. I was unable to type a simple document with the keyboard. I had to return it and move up to a much much more expensive and loud keyboard to get things done. PROS: 1. It works with older Mac OS systems. I am using El Capitan and it works like a champ. I hooked it up to a laptop running Catalina and it works as well. (Keep in mind it still has the issues mentioned above. The OS didn’t affect its performance.) 2. The color options are great. Although when you reboot, you’ll have to turn the backlighting on again. (The backlight button also works as the eject button.) 3. The key layouts are identical to mac full keyboards. Final result: I had to return this keyboard because I need reliability with the keys. I would love to see a new version of this keyboard to come out. One where they invest in the keys. If the price goes above $100, so be it. If they would have created a keyboard with 2 USB outs, a solid key mechanism, and reliable key pressing with brighter key indication, I would easily pay $150. As it stands I’m about to spend $249.00 on what is supposed to be the keyboard of all keyboards. The Das Keyboard 5Q. The Q5 is too much of a keyboard for me. However, there is no middle ground. This would have been it. But it failed.

(note about the photo – that isn’t wear on the keys, embarassingly it just apparently needs to be cleaned, and I’m only noticing that after taking a photo lol) I came back to this page because I lost the instructions on how to adjust the backlight color and brightness (it’s super easy, I just forgot and now have it on a stickie) and figured I’d write a review because a) I know I always read reviews myself, and b) the reviews are so darn mixed for this keyboard. I’m all Apple everything but… I don’t enjoy the feel and design of the Magic Keyboard. I couldn’t type quickly as it just became a mass of typos. Also, where’s the backlight?! I often work at night and I feel like being able to see your entire keyboard is pretty imperative. I love that the brightness on this one is easily adjustable and you can have it set to just white if you aren’t feelin’ a crazy color. I actually prefer corded as I seem to always have issues with Bluetooth anything really. They can just be so finicky. As my keyboard stays at my desk, it’s fine. I also don’t really care that it’s USB 2 – I’m guessing we all have adapters and hubs, it’s not major points off for me as the connection is solid. I love the Space Gray – it matches everything else I have going on tech-wise, and I REALLY appreciate zero branding on it. It looks clean, feels sturdy, has substantial keys with a good smooth click that isn’t too loud – and I don’t make a bunch of typos with it! The contour of the keys is just right (for me at least!). I’ve had this for a year now and I’m on my computer daily. I’m not writing novels but as a designer I do use certain keys a million times a day and there has been zero wear or fading on those keys. I’ll agree that there’s a bit of light leakage at the base of the keys but it’s so slight – and since your view is down at the main set of keys used, you don’t see the very slight side leakage. It doesn’t bug me at all. All in all I literally have zero complaints, and I searched far and wide for a proper apple dupe before I bought this, even with the mixed reviews. I’m so happy I did!

This. keyboard is high quality. It feels a lot like a Mac keyboard and types quietly. It is wired so I am able to use it at my work office where wifi is not allowed. The backlight colors are adjustable using a small wheel on the top edge of the keyboard. I have been using this keyboard for 2 years and I have no complaints. I highly recommend this.

Looks and works as advertised. Nice feel to the keys.

I am not disappointed in this product for the money. I would have been okay paying more and getting a little more. Specifically the action on the keys. It isn’t as snappy and sensitive as the Apple chiclets keyboard. Now that I am used to it, it isn’t much of an issue, but at first I wouldn’t mash hard enough to register an input every so often. Also it would have been nice to have software support. As it stands I do not see another option out there for RGB lighting on chiclets style keyboard so this isn’t bad for someone who works in the dark.

I was really excited to receive this keyboard, having recently updated my office, with some new LED lighting, figured this was the perfect addition. While the keyboard is solid and the backlights are nifty… the board itself is flawed. It started within a few week after receiving. Several keys the letter (i), (o) and the carriage return key often (very often) add duplicates. The Delete key when used to delete hi-lighted text takes multiple taps to work. The (L) key sometimes takes a couple taps to work, and other duplicate anomalies, so I find myself having to constantly edit and retype my text. I contacted Matias support, and to their credit they sent me a second board, but within a week or two, this one performs exactly the same. Probably just me, but I also find the keyboard layout is a little bit larger(?) than what I am used to, and my aim is off, so the missed keys adds to the overall editing frustration and increased amount of work needed for text entry. Matias has offered to refund my purchase, less shipping. At $95 and two defunct boards later, I don’t feel I should have to pay for shipping, I paid when I bought it. Too bad, I really wanted to love this thing.
