Apparently a “scratch awl” is not the same as the traditional awl that I’ve always used as a punch to make small holes, start screws, etc. The first time I lightly tapped the shank with a hammer, the blade came loose. Probably my fault, but I suspect that many people would make the same mistake. Buy something else if you’re looking for a more durable all-purpose awl.
