This twelve piece punch press should handle just about anything I need I always have had difficulty starting drill holes where I needed. This set is good to start a drill and especially as drift punches. Driving broken rusty screws out of wood or metal has always been a problem for me. This set helps tremendously. I especially like they way that the punches roll up into a small pouch.

Great twelve piece pilot punch set.. Sizes run from 1/16” thru ½”. Hardened heat treated steel with a rounded tip is a great help to avoid damage to the work piece. . Makes driving pins in and out a breeze. . . Very high quality tools and very highly recommended for the pro or the handyman. Tools like these are great to come by and should last a lifetime.

Mayhew tools has been in the tool business in the USA for 160 years! They are very well-known among pros and treasured for their quality. Over the years, I have had many center-punches, designed for knocking out solid pins, but had never invested in a set of pilot punches for knocking out hollow pins. I have always “made do” by trying to carefully catch the edge of a hollow pin with a regular punch, and more often than not, ended up mangling the pin or getting my center-punch caught in the hole. Needless to say, I jumped on the opportunity to try out these Mayhew 112-K Pilot Punch Set (12-Piece)! For starters, the set I received were packaged in a much nicer roll-up pouch than you see depicted in the photo. Mine was a black & red heavy duty canvas roll-up pouch. The quality of these pilot punches is absolutely top-notch! They range in size from 1/16 to 1/2 inch. The rounded centers are ideal for centering in hollow pins, and the edges are nice and sharp for catching the outer edges of hollow pins. I really can’t speak highly enough of these punches, and am thrilled to have them! Thanks Mayhew, and Home Depot!

This is a “pilot” punch set which is different from a “pin” punch set. The difference is in the function. A pilot punch has a ball on the tip and is used specifically for hollow pins like a split pin. The ball engages in the hollow which assures proper contact to push the pin out without damage to either the pin or the surface of the hole it is being driven from. This 12-piece set is awesome…that’s what my husband says. Not only will it work for split pins but it will also be very useful for making a pilot indention on metal for driving sheet metal screws through. It has every size he works with, is very sturdy and even comes with a mountable carrying case. Well done !!!

Nice punches in an easy to identify pouch. I do a bit of work on electric and hydraulic equipment and come across roll pins frequently. It never fails that someone previously tried to remove a roll pin with a standard punch and disfigured the end of the pin making it difficult to remove or reuse. Punches like these with the pilot ball on the end are made to engage the hole in the pin and center it for proper removal or installation. This set is made of quality steel and I haven’t bent, broke, or mushroomed the end of any of the punches I have used to date. They feel nice and have a good weight in my hands and the knurling is just right. I have owned and used other high quality punches and these feel just as nice as some of those at half the price.
