I use an hourly-updated image looking out my office window on my webpage (review instructions say no URLs but maybe they’ll make an exception if they do, you can view the current hourly updated image at @). The problem with today’s webcam’s is that they’re intended for video conferencing and video conversations so they’re designed for low-light situations with the subject close to the camera. Because of that, I’ve found the ideal webcam to be a cheap old point-and-shoot camera. This worked well until W7 when the camera’s manufacturer didn’t update the driver. I continued to use the camera but had to run it from Virtual XP which slowed down my machine for other uses and the webcam would fail after a few days. I purchased at least five webcams trying to find one that would work with W7 and also provide good out-the-window images. None did both until the Microsoft LifeCam Studio. I could probably have got by with a cheaper version of the LifeCam but I wanted a threaded socket to attach the camera to a suction tripod-head mount on the window. It’s important to mount the LifeCam as close as possible to the window so it’s too close to focus on the glass (you should also disable auto focus). As soon as the camera was plugged into my W7-64 machine, it was recognized and the drivers were downloaded seamless (not surprising given that it’s a Microsoft machine). A firmware update is available from Microsoft which also installed without a hitch. If you want to use all of the many features of the camera (e.g., software pan and tilt) you need to download Microsoft’s software. Unfortunately that limited (but didn’t eliminate) the camera’s ability to work with the software I use to capture, process, and ftp images to my webpage (ConquerCam) so I uninstalled it.The LifeCam Studio is just about perfect for my application. It provides a reasonably sharp image under a very wide variety of lighting conditions (revisit my website to see images during the day and night). I was able to upgrade the image on my website from the standard 640 x 480 to 800 x 600 (and could’ve gone much higher than that but didn’t see the point). There is slight lens flare in the late afternoon when the camera (which faces west) is hit by the setting sun but that’d be the case with most cameras. I’ve waited a long time for this camera and it’s worth the wait and the camera’s cost. I highly recommend this camera if your application is similar to mine.

No software, no tools. No ability to zoom or crop image. While I liked the small size, I’m off to find a better webcam where I can control the zoom.

Looked all around different stores but this one had the best price! This webcam is far better than using my laptop camera. The autofocus does have its moments when it blurrs out for 2 seconds but other than that I am satisfied!

AS QUICK AS I LEARN TO USE LIFECAM IT IS GOING TO BE GREAT. IT IS SMALL AND COMPACT BUT TAKES GREAT PHOTOS.

I’m living and studying overseas and Skype and Zoom are a good way to keep in touch with my family and friends back home. This is why I’ve bought 4 Microsoft LifeCam Studio cams to use them (bought 2 of them 2 yrs ago from B&H, then I bought 2 from a seller on @). They are/were excellent when they’ve worked. However, since I’ve upgraded to Windows 8 and then to 8.1 the cam’s driver keeps crushing every now and then and I have to disconnect the camera and connect it again, which sometimes may or may not solve the problem.

I rated it a 2 because when it worked, it worked very well. The problem is, it simply stopped working and none of the Microsoft fixes have helped. Most of the people who have problems are using Windows 7. As far as I can tell the cam works fine for XP.The camera works when it wants to, sometimes it comes up, most times it doesn’t. After the 3rd week, the zoom feature (a key reason I bought this cam) simply stopped working at all. Since the zoom is digital, it makes no sense. It seems the software is having conflicts with a number of programs making use of it unreasonable. It will not operate with UStream 80% of the time, then sometimes it just does. (I haven’t figured out which aligning of the planets or raindance I’ve tried works, but it’s very reminiscent of adjusting a set-top TV antenna to get a distant station… if you wrap the power cord around the right side and attach a small piece of aluminum foil while standing on one leg and the dog can’t be in the room…. then the station will come in… unless it’s raining.)Microsoft has been UTTERLY USELESS in solving the problem. I now own an expensive Christmas Tree Ornament.

This appears to be a nice camera and seems to have a good auto focus, but you need 3rd party S/W to use it which MicroSoft doesn’t supply. I was only able to see the image on Windows 8.1 Camera but that offered no ability to record or save, just the live image in realtime. I am returning it for that reason since it seems to be a hassle finding S/W for it.

This product has excellent sound and video. It was a great value.

I installed this on a computer that was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The installation process was not swift: I had to disable the built-in webcam of the laptop in Device Manager so that camera software would be forced to switch to this one. The image looks nice but the 1080 is mostly about size of the image the quality is not top notch for advanced detail, but works for most things.

I bought this webcam mostly to be used on Skype. I have Windows 7 It is really plug and play.I plugged it into a USB port and it went an got the latest software on the net, down loaded and installed the software. I was then advised of a firmware update and was directed to the site which had the software and instructions. So far it has been fantastic.

Set-up: Win7 Pro 64bits, i7 950Mhz, Intel DX58SO2, 12GB. Camera installed flawlessly in a minute, updated drivers from the web, was up and running in a few moments. No issues whatsoever encountered w/ Win7 64bits. Resolution is great, for a Web-cam. Common comment out there is auto-focus being a bit annoying, and you can easily turn that off from the camera menu. First let it focus, then un-tick the box on the menu and voila! Integrated microphone sounds loud and clear. I have not tried it in low light conditions, but have seen other reviews including sample video where it performs great. I’m very satisfied overall.
