Redesigned and now rechargeable, the black Microsoft Surface Slim Pen provides a natural on-screen writing experience.
Now with a thin, easy-to-hold profile, the Surface Slim Pen has 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity with virtually no lag, and can now be used to shade in your drawings as you would with a pencil. The Surface Slim Pen now comes with a rechargeable battery as well as its own charging base. Simply place the Surface Slim Pen in the base and connect via USB Type-C. You can also store it on its own spot on the Surface Pro X Signature Keyboard (sold separately).
The Surface Slim Pen is compatible with select Surface models.

This pen is really fast to the touch screen and it even works on both of my surfaces at the same time.

I bought this pen to replace my Surface Pen which had disappeared off the face of the earth. (I expected that I would find it as soon as I bought this one, but it never did show back up.) I did not set out to buy this model, but the ability to charge it instead of relying on batteries sold me on it. All the other surface pens I had (this is my fourth) that I had until the battery died, I never successfully replaced the battery and would end up destroying the pen. I attached the charging cradle to the back of my Surface with Command tape (2 pieces end to end) and if I am not actively using the pen, it is in the cradle to prevent loss. I use it for school, jotting notes, and it makes note taking so much easier than using the keyboard.

I like the oblong cross-section so it doesn’t roll off the desk as most (all?) third party pens do. But the charge lasts only about a day and a half since it’s on all the time, so you have to remember to put it in the charger every night. And of course, remember to pack the charger when you travel. The third-party pens plug in directly to the USB-C with a little cable that takes up no room, and the charge lasts weeks. The only downside with those is you have to press the side button to power it on after idle time. Finally the MS pen is much more expensive than the third-party pens.

After several minutes of Slim Pen use my new Book 3 touchscreen stops responding. First I thought it was my screens problem. Then I found many people are complaining about same issue: here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/surface-pro-7-and-slim-pen-stop-working/38040852-d4fc-4d9a-a79c-14503c39d8b3?page=1 and here : https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/ii7p0p/help_book_3_touchscreen_stops_working_every_1030/ and here : https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/surface-book-3-touch-not-working/0c7c217c-a1ea-45e2-b715-1f2405376cc4 I will be returning mine for a regular one. It’s a shame because I really like the feel off the slim pen. hope microsoft fixes it, but do not risk it for now – Jan 2021

Working perfectly, the only issue which I believe it’s not very bad is it has a weak magnetic for attaching it to surface pro so it’s easy to fall down , otherwise it’s exter recommended
