Expand the capabilities of your USB Type-C compatible laptop or Surface device by using the USB Type-C Travel Hub with Power Passthrough from Microsoft to add ports. Designed for portability, this compact hub can be packed into a bag or purse to be taken almost anywhere. It connects quickly to your computer’s USB Type-C port to add a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port capable of transferring data from external drives and other compatible devices at up to 10 Gb/s. An external monitor may be connected to the hub through the VGA port or the HDMI port, which supports 4K monitors at 60 Hz. Other features include a Gigabit Ethernet port for reliable, high-speed wired network connections and a USB Type-C port with power passthrough to keep your compatible devices charged by connecting the hub to a power source.

I got it for two weeks, so far it does a good job. Size is small and no extra power needed. Easy to take it with me. But it only supports one external monitor.

Plugged in Western Digital My Passport 4TB drive. 35MB/s. Removed it and put in directly into the laptop – 95MB/s. Something isn’t working properly. YMMV.

This travel hub had all the accessory connections I needed for my laptop. I was using a similar one from Apple for the Surface previously, but the USB-C connection did not work for my headphones. I bought this to ensure there would be no hardware glitches across brands for headphone functionality. My only complaint is that this is an expensive item at almost $75. Seems exaggerated. The sleek design and the fact that it matches the computer is the trade-off.

It turns out I was using my USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C which was having non of the stuff I was trying. I switched to the ThunderBolt port on my laptop – and things are running fast as expected. 90MB/s transfer.
