I have only used this a handful of times, but so far it exceeds my expectations. I used to chisel out mortise for strike plates and hinges. Now I just set up the template and route it out. It gets the job done much faster and I don’t have to work as hard.

I definitely found this product to be extremely helpful. It contains not only all of the templates needed to complete the mortissing but also complete instructions.

Since I was only replacing doors, not frames, this review only mentions my satisfaction with the kit’s service for 1 3/8″ doors – which was good. Measurements from the old door to the center notches of the template worked every time. The included bit with bearing guide provided all that was needed for the job.

Used hte system for the door latch and it worked well. Only needed tat feature but chose to buy hte complete kit which included the hinge templates for the few dollars more.

Ordered online. Got it in a very timely manner. The set works great and I’d highly recommend it to any one working on doors.

This was a nice system. It was easy to set up and the mortises turned out great. So far I’ve done one door and it’s given me confidence to tackle more. More templates than I will probably ever use, however. The two screws provided to place the template guide stripped out after only one use.

It worked very well. Did the job perfect. I wouldn’t say it lines up perfectly but it’s just as easy to line it up by eye.

Tried it out and used different thickness of woods . Worked excellent.

Worked quite well and did the job. My only complaint is that you need to attach the tool to the door edge with two screws. Some type of clamping mechanism would be better. First, it is difficult to install the screw without the tool moving. Even an eighth of an inch will throw off the alignment making it difficult to match the existing hinge on the frame. I was installing new doors on the existing frame. If you’re replacing doors, I would recommend practicing on the old door first. Attach the tool to the door and with a pencil, mark the tool edges on the door (left and right). Make the cut, then measure from the mortise edge to the marks. This will help you to position the tool where it needs to go for the mortise to be in the right spot.

Easy to use for all hinge mortises and strike plate, etc. Would be much better if you did not have to screw the template into the door and jamb. The screw holes then have to be filled. The screws are cheapies and are worthless after 4 doors. Ryobi has a hinge mortise that clamps on without the use of screws.Measuring accuracy is the most important thing.

The tool performed well, especially for the price. I would not recommend it for the novice wood worker, although the instructions were clear, it does take some skill to achieve a professional result.

The kit includes templates for most hinge sizes. It is easy to set up and make the appropriate mortises. This is a homeowners kit and it does that very well.

I looked around online for a decent door motising kit as I am replacing about 5 interior doors with slab doors. I chose this one for the variety of mortise patterns and the relatively low price. HD seemed to have to the best price. I’ve got one door done and it worked great – hinges and plates fit perfectly in the mortise. Nailing the metal piece to the door was easy with a small pilot hole drilled first. Rock the metal piece back and forth once or twice to raise the nails in order to pry them out once finished. The router bit was a nice addition so that I didn’t have to find the correct bit in the store. Setting the cut depth on the router is the most time consuming part. I made a shallow cut first, test fit the hinge, then cut deeper if necessary. The hinges and strike plates may have different depths so try to do all of one or the other once you get the cut depth set on the router.

works well, be aware that you have to screw the plates down to use and that will leave 2 small screw holes in the wood after you remove the tool.
