The Milwaukee M12 FUEL SURGE 1/4 in. Hex Hydraulic Driver is the industry’s first 12-Volt hydraulic impact driver. Featuring the FLUID-DRIVE Hydraulic Powertrain, the hydraulic impact will allow users to experience operation up to 2X quieter with less vibration for smoother and faster driving speeds compared to standard impacts. The compact size of the tool and battery provides users with unmatched access in tight spaces & allows for easy transport on a tool belt and easy fitting into a job site tool bag. Performance is not sacrificed despite lower peak torque due to its Longer Sustained Torque that allows the tool to complete core users most common applications. The POWERSTATE Brushless Motor delivers up to 0 RPM-3,000 RPM with constant power output to drive screws faster. Built-in REDLINK PLUS intelligence is the most advanced electronic system on the market, preventing damage to the user’s tool and battery caused by overloading or overheating. The cordless impact driver is compatible with all Milwaukee M12 REDLITHIUM Compact Batteries or Extended Capacity Batteries, delivering users with more work per charge and more work over the life of the pack than competitive batteries. The impact driver’s 4-Mode DRIVE CONTROL provides users with greater control over output speed and power for greater versatility in a wide range of applications. Self-Tapping Screw Mode reduces walking when users are self-tapping screws as well as reduces overdriving, breaking and stripping out screws.
- FLUID-DRIVE hydraulic powertrain reduces metal on metal contact within the tool, delivering quieter operation, smoother performance and increased durability over a standard impact
- Longer sustained torque delivers similar drive times in application as most 12-Volt impact drivers
- Up to 2X quieter operation makes this tool ideal for occupied spaces
- Compact head length and compact battery footprint gives more access than competitive impact drivers
- POWERSTATE brushless motor delivers maximum power and long motor life
- REDLINK PLUS intelligence prevents damage to the tool and battery due to overloading or overheating
- REDLITHIUM batteries deliver more work per charge and more work over the life of the battery
- Includes: 2551-20 (tool-only), belt clip

Already had M18 surge, and found myself turning to it over M12 1/4″ impact driver due to lower noise levels. Still see plenty of power and speed with the M12 surge driver, but nice to have a quieter and more compact package for working indoors.

This has become part of my every day carry bag which I bring with me to any job. I particularly appreciate the low power mode for setting delicate fasteners it allows such precision and also such power when needed. Cannot recommend highly enough, with the 2ah battery it just fits everywhere. And with my bigger batteries they just seem to keep going and going!

Would definitely recommend this tool. Quieter than other impact drivers and having multi level power settings is a game changer.

By far one of the best impact drivers I’ve ever used. Put a high I’ll put battery in and you will never notice a difference between a 18 V and the m12 impact . Milwaukee continues to top the competition .

Super strong and speedy. Extremely low vibration. I actually can’t believe how good this really is. Well worth the money as long as it lasts.

Being hydraulic, less wear and tear while delivering strange power — it’s so quiet I think it’s weak — but the screws drive in. I have control due to the power settings — no spinning out or over-driving fasteners. I am now sold on the SURGE line and will spend the (bit) extra to get it. Next is an M18 Surge Impact.

I’m a professional HVAC/R tech and plumber. I have both the M12 standard impact and the surge hydraulic driver. They’re both about the same, but the hydraulic impact is noticably quieter and with less vibration. As for how much quieter, that depends on the material you’re impacting on. Flimsy sheet metal still makes some racket when you’re impacting, but softer material like ferncos or tightening philips head screws are so quiet all you hear is the humm of the impact. I always take care of my truck and tools, and I value having nicer tools, so the Surge impact was a worthwhile upgrade for me.

This is my third Milwaukee impact driver and it stays in my main packout kit. The only reason I didn’t give it the 5th star rating is the fact it’s a little slower than my other fuel models.

I first bought the M12 fuel impact and I liked it very much, then I had seen several people on the job using them. I noticed how much Quieter it is than the Fuel. So I bought it and have been using it since. Best M12 impact out there!

This small tool packs a big punch! It’s the perfect size and it will drive 3” screws all day. And no more loud impact driver. This thing is quiet also.

I needed to tighten down a few thousand nuts. Armed with one impact and two batteries i was able to make quick work of it.The 4 levels are useful. Level 1 bearly tightend beyond finger tight. 2 was moderate, and 3 was only required if o was trying to undo a really stuck nut.The 4th mode was for drill bits. I did not use this.By the time i used up one battery, the other was done charging.

I really like the M12 Fuel Surge. It is definitely a different type of impact, quiet compared to standard version. The impacts seem to be quicker than the standard version. I use it for small screws, 1-1/2” or under in length. The impact feels well balanced in the hand. I use the 18 volt version for big jobs or large screws. The M12 is what I carry around every day. I have had to use the Milwaukee Warranty on other tools in the past and it is one of the reasons I will continue to use Milwaukee now and in the future.

I have the M18 surge as well as this M12 surge, as far power I don’t see much difference but the size of the battery makes it smaller that I can more easily fit it in my electrical tool pouch.
